Notes: Borage Seed Oil is expensive and is usually blended in a small (often 10%) dilution with other carrier oils.

  • Scent: Light and Sweet
  • Consistency: Thin to Medium
  • Absorption/Feel: Penetrates well, leaves oil feel on skin.

  • Shelf Life: 6 months – keep refrigerated and away from natural and artificial lighting.

Benefits: Borage seed oil has been used in aromatherapy and natural skin care to aid many skin conditions including eczema and psoriasis. It is a prized oil for its abundant dietary, health, cosmetic, and medicinal benefits. Borage seed oil is known as one of the richest sources of essential fatty acids known to man. It is the richest source of gamma linolenic acid (GLA) – up to 25%.



Clinical trials have shown that GLA encourages healthy, mobile joints, and used regularly on facial skin it helps to soften fine lines and wrinkles. Good for regenerating and stimulating skin repair. Because of the GLA, it’s possible it can help slow down diabetic neuropathy. Is also a good oil to use when treating cellulite.

Borage oil is also used for multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, menopausal problems and heart disease.

Good for Skin Types: Normal, Oily, Dry, Mature, Damaged

Chemical Analysis: Approximately 15% saturated fat, 15% oleic acid (an omega-9 fatty acid), 38% linoleic acid (an omega-6 essential fatty acid), 21% gamma linolenic acid (GLA, an omega-6 essential fatty acid), less than 1% alpha linolenic acid (an omega-3 essential fatty acid)

Precautions: If you are on medication, talk to your medical professional before using borage seed oil, as potential interactions or side effects may occur. Avoid during pregnancy and nursing, as potential risks are unknown. Borage Seed Oil should not be used in high doses or over a long period of time without prior approval from your medical professional. May cause loose stools and minor stomach complaints.
