Your Dental Health Care PlanYou should make an effort to have a dental health care plan for family members to follow. Dental health is not an accident, people plan to take good care of their teeth, tongue, mouth and gums and in turn they avoid dental disease and have natural teeth instead of dentures. Dental health care is important for children, teens, adults and seniors.

A good dental health care plan includes proper brushing, flossing, the proper toothbrush, and the best toothpaste for each family member and regular visits to the dentist for examinations and cleanings every six months.

A good dental health plan prevents gum disease, treats cold sores, canker sores and other mouth infections as soon as they start.

A good dental health plan includes regular visits to the dentist, which may include an examination, cleaning, and X-rays.

A good dental health care plan knows that fluoride is important for kids and adults and that those who drink bottled water need to take fluoride supplements.

Make sure you report any dental problems to your dentist promptly, clean your teeth daily, floss daily and watch out for ways that may cause injury to your teeth such as falls, motor and bike accidents, and sports injuries. Always wear protective mouth guards while playing contact sports. Ask your dentist about how you can prevent dental injuries.

Learn how to brush and floss correctly by asking your dental hygienist to demonstrate for you the proper techniques. Make sure you use a soft bristled brush with a small head and easy grip handle. Learn how to hold the brush correctly. Don’t forget to brush your tongue.

It is important not to brush too vigorously as this can irritate your gums and cause problems.

Replace your toothbrush every 3 months or when it looks worn. It is also important to replace your toothbrush after recovering from the cold or flu because germs can stay on the toothbrush from your mouth when you are sick and be re-deposited into your mouth from your toothbrush after you are well, effectively getting you sick again. Having good dental practices can make a positive impact on your over-all good health.

Mouth picks, mouth rinses, oral irrigators or devices that help to remove food particles are all good dental tools. Toothpicks and other sharp objects should not be used to pick food from between your teeth as these can irritate your gums.

Remember to revise your dental health care plan as you age because your dental needs change, as you get older. Your dentist can help you to make changes that will help you to improve your dental health to prevent dental disease and prevent dental injuries. Plan to have good dental health and you will be surprised at how easy it is to prevent cavities and other dental problems.
