What are the best humanitarian organizations out there and why?

Question by patsy36ss: What are the best humanitarian organizations out there and why?
I know it’s hard to rank one humanitarian group agaisnt another, especially when motives and overall goals are similar. For those of you who are involved with, or have a good knowledge of various organizations, which ones are “the best”, in considering groups that are completely non-profit, how helpful their resources are, etc.

I believe the “RED CROSS” is the most humanitarian non profit organization in the world.
It works in every country supplying food and care every day.
It works in every country on a moments notice to respond to public and natural disasters. The Red Cross teams are always the first organized group on the scene actively helping. They hand food and fresh water to the people within hours and supply medical aid funded by regular citizens like us.
I have no doubt they are the best and most effective.
I have no problems donating to the Canadian Red Cross when called upon to do so. They work because they care and want to do Gods’ work.

    I have been working as a volunteer for Hospice for 5 years now and they offer a wide variety of services to the community and not just to the terminally ill. They offer bereavement counseling for all ages including children with their Butterflies program. Also they offer counseling in general for those who need it.
    All the families they serve are not left out in the cold when their loved one passes. They keep contact with the family as least a year after their death and some beyond that if they request it.
    When they serve a family they do everything possible to make sure that every comfort is available to the patient and family. I got involved with hospice myself after our family had need of their services when my father was terminally ill with cancer. I was so impressed and touched by their caring that I eventually decided to volunteer. I feel very honored to be of some help to the families I serve.

    The MCC helps out at disasters around the world, and here in the United States. The latest example is the Amish school shooting.

    They have a store called Ten Thousand Villages. This store is unique, they sell, clothing, jewelry, pottery, oriental rugs, etc.. What is different is that the craftsman are from dozens of countries around the world. MCC guarentees that each artisan is paid a “living” fair wage, has safe working conditions, a chance at education, and helps them rebuild their communities.

    They are beautiful creations,. Although it is a Christian organization, they do NOT force it on the people they help, only offer the gospel of Christ if they want to hear it.
