Being pregnant is not always an easy time for a woman. Often a pregnant mother suffers a diverse number of ailments that can cause quite a lot of discomfort at times. Fortunately though, there are many remedies that can help.
Morning Sickness, Nausea and Headache
It is very common that in the first trimester a pregnant mother might suffer bouts of nausea and headaches, usually in the morning, hence called morning sickness. Some aromatherapy oils are perfectly safe to use during pregnancy. Inhaling peppermint and ginger essential oil will help alleviate nausea and headaches. Peppermint essential oil can be used, diluted in carrier oil, on the temples and give great relief. It is also safe to drink ginger and peppermint tea.
Constipation during pregnancy is very common. Low levels of progesterone cause the food to pass more slowly through your intestines. Also later in pregnancy the pressure from your uterus on your rectum increases making it harder to get bowel movements. It important to eat food with a high level of fiber during this time, such wholegrain bread.
Eat a good amount of roughage like lettuce, spinach, prunes etc. Drink at least 1.5 – 2.0 ltrs water a day. You can also have some mallow and dandelion tea in the evening. This helps you get a gentle bowel movement. Exercise is also very important and helps very much in keeping a healthy digestion.
Stretch marks are a concern of all pregnant mothers. The skin around the belly area is stretched a great deal, particularly when pregnancy is accompanied with some weight gain. It is important during this time to keep the skin moisturized and nourished. Using a good blend of Vitamin E, Rosehip and Wheatgerm oils together with an Aromatherapy blend of Lavender, Neroli and Mandarin essential oil will help look after that. They can be safely applied on the tummy area twice daily to keep skin nourished. Dry skin is more prone to stretch marks.
