Question by SuzieQ: What is a credible Humanitarian organizations?
I would like to volunteer for a humanitarian mission. I am looking for a credible organization that I can research and verify. I am aware of the Peace Corps, but I am looking for something that is more short term.
I would like to do some traveling either in the US or overseas with my volunteer work.

One of the most respected and oldest is the Red Cross. You can volunteer for the American Red Cross, and serve in your local area, with others who serve in case of fires or floods or earthquakes, storms and other disasters.

If you are looking for volunteer work for a few months, or a summer, there are hundreds of charitable missions with charities and social agencies in this country, or in Central or South American missions.

If you are a member of a religious denomination, just ask about service in agencies which they sponsor either in the US or other countries. If you want a few mentions, try the American Friends Service Committee (The Quakers), the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, or nondenominational Habitat for Humanity, etc.

There are groups that organize mission trips. The ones I have linked to below are the two that our church has used in the past and have had successful trips with them. Our daughter went on a mission trip with each of these organizations and enjoyed both trips.
Not only do they have the trips, but they also hire staff to run the program for the groups, usually for several months at a time, so that’s an alternative for you.
