Cramps are a reality for most teens and women in their 20s and early 30s. They are caused by strong uterine contractions triggered by prostaglandins. These strong contractions cause the blood supply in the uterus to temporarily shut down and then increase the contractions and pain.

Menstrual cramps are the single biggest reason for lost school and work hours among women. Cramps can be mild to debilitating and don’t require a doctors attention unless the pain isnt controlled by over the counter medications and other home remedies.

Women can use a menstrual calendar to predict their periods, chart their pain and emotional responses to the hormonal changes that happen each month. Using this calendar a woman can begin taking ibuprofen 2 times a day the day before she expects her period. Ibuprofen blocks the prostaglandin receptors in the uterus and significantly decreases the pain and cramping.

Some women also suffer from constipation during the beginning of their period. Eating 8 servings of fruits and vegetables and maintaining a healthy colon, at least 3 days before she expects her period, will decrease the pain and discomfort from constipation.

When you were young, you may have heard the terrible things teens say to each other when they have teen acne. You know the “pizza face” comments and the poor self-image that goes with it. You want to spare your teen from being called the same names. Try these ways to control acne in your teen and they may not have to hear them at all.

In the past, people thought teen acne was caused by eating too much fried food or chocolate. Nothing could be further from the truth. Acne is caused, plain and simple, from clogged oil glands. What’s clogging them? Normally it’s a mixture of dead skin cells, extra oil, hair follicles, and possibly bacteria.

You may notice your teen’s acne gets worse when they are affected by any of the following items:

* Stress
* Hard scrubbing of the facial skin
* Oil-based makeup, lotions, suntan oil, or hair products
* Hormonal changes, especially during a female’s monthly menstrual cycle
* Picking or squeezing at them

Of the many different causes of male infertility is a varicocele and is also one of the most common. A varicocele is very simply a varicose vein that developed in the venous system of the testicles. Varicose veins in the testicles develop in much the same way that others do.

This means that the one-way valves that control the blood flow in the veins are damaged and allow the blood to pool. This pooling will increase the temperature inside the scrotum, which causes poor circulation and decreased sperm production because of the heat.

Urologists estimate that between 10 and 20% of all men will experience a varicocele or varicose veins in the testicles at some point in their lives. And only 40% who have varicose veins in the testicles will have any discernible symptoms. Most men can feel the swelling or lump that surrounds the testicle inside of the scrotum.
