Menstrual Cramps and Fluid Retention

To comfort the pain and discomfort of menstrual cramps, use repeated hot compresses of Marjoram and Clary Sage over the abdomen. As you lie back and rest, drink a cup of chamomile tea. A warm aromatic bath with Lavender and Rose soothes and comforts before and during menstruation.

To ease fluid retention, which products a general bloated feeling and may include specific symptoms of tender breasts and a swollen abdomen, take warm aromatic baths with the following mixture: 3 drops each of Lavender and Clary Sage mixed into a little evening primrose oil.

You can also mix 2 drops each of Lavender, Roman Chamomile and Clary Sage into 1 tsp (5 ml) each of evening primrose oil and Jojoba Oil, and gently massage your abdomen in a clockwise direction.

To help prevent fluid retention and other menstrual problems, visit an aromatherapist for a course of lymphatic drainage massage. Then try to have a monthly lymphatic drainage massage a few days before your period is due.
