  1. would you tell me, do I use the olive oil pack each day? Thanks, Wendy

  2. Hi Wendy,

I’d do the oil pack 2-3 times per week :)

    Warm regards,
    Dee

  3. Hi Doc. wondering if you could help me. How long does it take for herbal supplements to wear out of the system? I was taking Vitex for hormone balance/acne for about 3 months and started getting non stop cold sore outbreaks. Found online that higher levels of progesterone can cause a woman to have frequent herpes activity – which would also explain why i had such bad outbreaks when i was on the pill, years ago – stopped the pill and changed my diet, cold sores stopped.

anyhow, do you how long will the hormones be effected? i stopped the vitex 2 weeks ago and want my body to go back to the way it was!! I’d rather deal with the acne than the cold sores!!

    thanks for any help….

  4. Hi Adrienne, a good rule of thumb (for herbal meds as well as prescriptions) is how long you were on it before the breakouts began happening. It should average about the same length of time for it to get out of your system to the point it was before the outbreaks. I will caution you, however, that if that amount of time has passed, or the outbreaks worsen, please see your doc. It may not be the vitex at all, but something else working in your system.

  5. I started taking glucosamine chondroitin MSM supplements about 6 months ago and have dramatically improved my back and hand pain and stiffness. However the intestinal gas it gives me is going to force me to stop taking it. Can you recommend a brand that doesn’t cause this uncomfortable and embarassing side effect?

  6. @Vickie -
Actually, yes I can. Look into Arthrit-Eze and also their GLM and Omega supplements – absolutely the best of these types of supplements I’ve ever found. Let me know how it goes!

    Dee

  7. Natural Acne Remedies

No matter how severe your acne problem may be, you probably don’t need prescription medications. Over the counter medications aren’t necessary either. Try these all-natural remedies:

Lime and milk: Add the juice of a whole lime to a cup of boiled milk. Use the mixture as a face wash to get rid of pimples and blackheads.
Garlic rub: Despite its strong smell, a cut clove of garlic rubbed on problem areas can help alleviate pimples and consistent use can maintain clear, healthy skin.
Honey: Honey mixed with water or milk is an excellent acne treatment that will also help give your skin a healthy glow.
Raw potato: Raw potato rubbed on affected areas will act as an antiseptic. It can also assist in removing dead skin as well as providing important skin nutrients

    Natural Burn Remedies

Burns don’t typically require prescription medications. However there are a lot of natural remedies available without buying over priced aloe gels or other salves from the pharmacy.

Papaya is a great remedy for sunburn. Slice a papaya into thin slices and cover the affected area for a least an hour. You will be pleasantly pleased by the soothing results. Also, sun reddened skin turns brown!
Small burns from touching a flame or frying pan can be quickly remedied with a small amount of baking soda or sodium bicarbonate mixed with enough water to make a paste. Apply the mixture to the affected are for at least 10 minutes and the baking soda will not only help to alleviate pain but also help to promote healing without scarring.

  9. Is it healthy or safe to blow into an infants mouth to blow snot through its nose? Side effects? Is it healthy? Can it cause siezures? Can it cause etc…etc…etc… The babies grandmother (my friend, Leighann, 38 yrs. old) is having a fit about her son-in-law doing this to her grandson. can you please send me some kind of information about it. the baby cries for 10 to 20 minutes after the son-in-law does this to the baby….thank you for any help you can give us…..John R. Olenchak Jr.

  10. @john olenchak -
Any time you force something through an infant’s nose or mouth you are able to cause injury. Plus the fact that this father is basically blowing every airborne germ he’s carrying directly into his baby’s respiratory tract. I think if my grandchild was on the receiving end of this type of ‘treatment’, I’d also be ‘having fits’. The alternative? A baby bulb syringe. This is what doctors and hospitals use and what is recommended. I’ve yet to see a doctor blow into a baby’s mouth to clear his or her nasal passages. If the baby is crying afterwards, at the very LEAST daddy scared the tar out of him/her and probably caused pain. In my opinion, this is SO not a good idea!

  11. @john olenchak -
One more thing…..a human airway does not only go from mouth to nose – it also goes from mouth to lungs – I shudder to think what kind of injury this could potentially cause a small child.

  13. Hi Dee,

Saw some of your articles on ezinearticles and have had a look through your site. Good stuff!

Can I please introduce you to my own article site http://www.holistichealtharticles.com. It’s a new site and is for authors in the holistic/natural medicine and wellness field only.

It would be great if you could post some of your excellent work there and obviously link back to your site. I’m more than happy to add new categories if the current ones are insufficient.

As I said, the site is new, so it can only get bigger and better!

    Thanks – Richard

  15. Hi Dr Dee,

    great blog on alternative health.

I’m an expert on natural vision improvement and saw that you have a category on eye health.

Would you be interested in a few articles written exclusively for your blog, which reference back to my site?

    Thanks for your consideration,

  16. Hi Dr. Dee;

This is such a great site – you get back to people, answer questions, very organic. The question is – how do I get my website under your Natural Remedies section? My site is informational only like this one, and I’m trying to network with likeminded natural or holistic nonprofit websites! Not as easy as it sounds!

    Appreciated!

  18. Dear Editors of Natural Holistic Health Blog

I’ve enjoyed reading your blog and thought you might be interested to know that Ellen Langer has an incredible new book out called Counterclockwise: Mindful Health and the Power of Possibility. Here’s what some notables have said:

“Take a brilliant, creative social scientist, without any respect for conventional wisdom and you get Ellen Langer. She is a fantastic storyteller, and Counterclockwise is a fascinating story about the unexpected ways in which our minds and bodies are connected.”
    — Dan Ariely, Ph.D., author of Predictably Irrational

“Counterclockwise presents a new way to think about lifelong health and aging. Read this most important book to improve your quality of life at any age.”
    — Deepak Chopra, M.D.

“Dr. Langer’s work provides fascinating insight into the body-mind connection. She shows how changing our minds changes our bodies to optimize our health and performance as we get older.”
    — Jill Bolte Taylor, Ph.D. author of My Stroke of Insight

“Ellen Langer offers us brilliant insights into subtleties that hold us back in life, and shows the way to shining new possibilities. Counterclockwise will change the way you see and think.”
    — Daniel Goleman, Ph.D., author Emotional Intelligence

“Counterclockwise makes a strong case for the influence of expectation and belief on how our bodies function, on how we heal, and even how we age. Ellen Langer presents fascinating scientific data to support this view and argues convincingly that we should learn to take greater control of our health through the practice of mindfulness. Her research is innovative and empowering.”
    — Andrew Weil, M.D.

“Ellen Langer has used her extensive research and scholarship to write a book that will be indispensable to anyone confronting illness or old age (in other words, to everyone). She shows that many seemingly unavoidable damages to our body can be reversed or ameliorated by the conscious application of the mind. The book can be used as a manual
against despair; but more than that, it is a seminal work in what the author calls “the psychology of possibility” — a perspective on the unexplored riches of human nature.”
    — Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, author of Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience

Wray Herbert’s newsweek.com review http://www.newsweek.com/id/193197 suggests it challenges everything we know about healthcare and healing. The book is also the basis for a movie, Counterclockwise, where Jennifer Aniston will be playing Ellen.

It would be great if you considered blogging about her new book. Thanks!

  19. [...] // I know I have many folks who are in the healing profession reading this blog. So, now is the time I ask all of you to help.I’ve been experiencing what I call a ‘dark night of the soul.’ I won’t go into what instigated my dilemma, but suffice it to say that I know without a doubt it’s time to do SOMETHING – to give back – to help without expectation of compensation, ego stroking or even recognition. The problem is, I don’t want to do it alone.I have an idea – this isn’t a ‘profit-making’ idea, mind you – all funds, all time in conjunction with this would go to help children in need. We can pick a single ’cause’ (hunger, abuse, delinquency, education, etc) or multiple – I’m very open on that. What I’m firm on is that every cent, and part of our time and expertise, goes to whatever cause we choose and that the cause have something to do with helping the children of our world.I don’t have to be the ‘leader’ – so if someone with more expertise decides to contact me – I’ll happily be your co-worker. I know we give every single day – but those of you who have that nagging thought that you could or should be doing *something* more, please contact me. Who better suited to give back on a larger scale than those who are already healers? Are you a healer? You probably are. Healers can be doctors, psychologists, counselors, aromatherapists, reflexologists, herbalists, acupuncturists, color or crystal therapist, sound therapists, energy workers, nutritionists, or a professional in one of a myriad of other healing modalities. Healing takes place in a multitude of ways and healers come in all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, educational levels and talents. Please… help me give back.
