Panic attacks strike without warning, without obvious reasons and brings an overwhelming fear. It is far more intense that a feeling of being stressed out than what most people experience. Instead of stress people who experience panic attacks find the experience terrifying.

The number of people who suffer from panic attacks are rather large. The Merck Manual reports that they happen in 33% of adults each year. Some experience an isolated attack without ever having another. Or these attacks can be part of other anxiety disorders such as social phobia, panic disorder or generalized anxiety disorder.

Although panic attacks also happen in people who are suffering other anxiety disorders there is a difference between anxiety and panic. The actual difference is in the duration and intensity of the symptoms. Panic attacks are episodes that last for only a short time while anxiety attack occur more gradually, are less intense and last for longer periods of time.

Physical symptoms anxiety panic attacks are often marked by an increased heart rate and a feeling that the heart may pound right out of the chest. People report they feel dizzy, get sick to their stomach and its hard to catch their breath. People feel like they may be dying or going crazy.

When the symptoms develop abruptly and reach peak in 10 minutes the individual is experiencing a panic attack. According to the DSM IV people will suffer from at least four of the following symptoms:
Shortness of breath
Palpitations, pounding hear or increased heart rate
Chest pain
Shaking or trembling
Feeling of choking
Sweating
Nausea/Vomiting Abdominal or stomach pain
Unsteady, dizzy or faint
Feeling detached from self
Fear of losing control or going crazy
Fear of dying
Numbness or tingling
Cold or hot flashes
Difficulty swallowing

Most panic attacks end within 20 or 30 minutes but some can last as long as an hour.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health approximately 2.4 million Americans age 18 to 54 have a panic disorder. This may coexist with other disorders most often depression or substance abuse.

A panic disorder differs from a panic attack because individuals will suffer from frequent and unexpected attacks. Once a person has been worrying about another panic attack for a month or more or theyve made significant changes in their behavior to avoid places where theyve previously had an attack they can be diagnosed with a panic disorder.

Many people who experience the physical symptoms anxiety panic attacks dont seek treatment because they dont think they can be treated. They also may fear what others think about their condition and as a result, will suffer needlessly.

Treatment is available for physical symptoms anxiety panic attacks which help people to lead more productive and happier lives. The stress of anticipating or waiting for an attack often keeps people from social situations in which they feel their attacks will recur. With treatment they are able to move through their lives without fear or distress lessening their risk of depression or development of other anxiety disorders.

Anxiety and Panic Disorders are becoming more and more common in modern life. Although exact figures are hard to come by, it is estimated that up to 6.5% of the population has suffered from a diagnosable Anxiety Disorder, while many more people struggle with uncomfortable and distressing symptoms of stress and anxiety.

Prescription drugs are too often the the treatment of choice for the vast majority of people suffering from anxiety and panic attacks.

Some examples of prescription drugs used to treat anxiety are Diazepam, Alprazolam, Clonazepam, Inderol, Clonidine, Imipramine or Wellbutrin. There are many others.

While all of the above psychiatric drugs have undergone clinical trials and have been found to be effective to varying degrees in controlling anxiety and panic attacks, patients are not always properly educated as to the dangers of long term use.

What is PureCalm?

PureCalm combines the soothing properties of Melissa Officinalis, with those of Lavender and Passiflora Incarnata, bringing you relief from anxiety, stress, irritability and nervous tension.

PureCalm can be used whenever necessary and is also useful in the treatment of shock. Just a few drops in a little water can bring almost instant relief!

PureCalm is non-addictive and can help you with:

Anxiety and nervousness

Stress and tension

Panic Attacks

Restlessness

Irritability

Treating anxiety with PureCalm

People are not all the same and treatment for anxiety and panic attacks will vary according to the person and the length and severity of the problem. Here is a guideline that will help you to decide which treatment is best for you!

A) Anxiety – general nervousness, and a tendency to worry a lot. Stressful lifestyle.

Take PureCalm drops three times a day for three weeks and thereafter whenever you feel a little anxious. Just a few drops of PureCalm in a little water will help to soothe and calm anxious minds and induce a state of relaxation and well-being.

B) Severe Anxiety – Nervousness, Panic Attacks and Phobias. May have multiple fears and health worries.

Severe anxiety needs some extra help. Take MindSoothe together with PureCalm. MindSoothe is a unique combination of St John’s Wort and Passiflora in therapeutic dosage.

Regular use results in an increase in self confidence and well-being and a more relaxed state of mind. MindSoothe also has a positive effect on sleep patterns, concentration and memory, which are often affected in anxiety disorders.

How has PureCalm helped others?

“I am 26 years old and have been having problems with anxiety for a while now but as of late it has become increasingly strong. It has interfered with my job and with other things that I do. It has also been hard for me to leave the house at times because of the fear and nervousness I feel inside. I have been on prescription medications (Paxil, etc.) in the past and they did seem to help me but leave you with very bad withdrawal symptoms if you choose to stop taking them, which I eventually did. I have always been interested in more natural/herbal formulas and so I searched to find something that might help me and that is when I came across your website. I saw all the great testimonials and that the products were natural/herbal formulated and so I decided to give the PureCalm anxiety/stress relief formula a try.

I have been on it for about 3 weeks now and I can’t believe how I feel! I feel really good and haven’t had much problems with the anxiety (very small to almost none, if any) since I have been using this formula.

I take it about 3 times a day, morning, afternoon and just before I go to bed. I now feel much more calm than I ever have and that feels soooo unbelievably nice. I am truly amazed and I just came back again and ordered another order so I will be all set for the next several months.

I am really happy that I found this website and can’t give you enough applause and praise from me for finally being able to supply those of us who need it, a natural based formula that truly works. Thank you so very much.

Anyone who is looking for a more natural alternative or something instead all those prescription formulas then please give one of these formulas a try, you might be pleasantly surprised as maybe all of us were but you really have nothing to lose. This company is truly a godsend.” – Carly, MA

“My ten year old son suffered from severe panic attacks, i.e. shaking uncontrollably, crying being violently sick and finally a severe nosebleed. After taking PureCalm he instantly felt better and we haven’t had a panic attack for months. In fact my husband has been having a really stressful time at work and his patience have worn thin. He has been taking the drops and swears they help him stay calm and get through the day. I live in the UK and the doctors here prescribed strong medication for my son I really didn’t want him to take them so this product is my saving grace.” – Yvonne, UK

“PureCalm has helped me remarkably I find myself wanting to be around my family and friends and I’m no longer afraid to be in large groups of people. I also find it a lot easier to engage in conversation with others. This is a great product!” – Michael, FL, USA

“This product is remarkable! My 9yr old daughter has been having anxiety about going to school in the past few weeks. Within just a few days of taking this product, she is sleeping better, waking up with a better attitude and actually making it to school on time. Thank you! I will definitely be ordering more.” – MI, USA

“To all those out there who are dealing with anxiety, and wondering if PureCalm really works. I have been using PureCalm now for about five months. I was really going through hard times with anxiety attacks. I was finding myself wanting just to stay at home because I thought no one would understand the fears I was dealing with. When I went to the doctor they wanted to put me on paxil or some kind of other drug. I wanted something natural. One night when I couldn’t fall asleep, I went down stairs and prayed asking God please show me what to do. I felt that I was to get on the internet and look up under panic attacks and anxiety disorders. I came to this sight and saw the ads for all natural products. This is what I have been looking for. I ordered the product and got it quickly from the company. I tried it right away. Praise God it worked!!! Now I am telling all my friends family members even my doctor. I don’t have to take drugs I can do the natural way. Since being on the product I can now go places I couldn’t before. I am truly grateful to your company for making PureCalm. I hope and pray that PureCalm helps others as it has done for me.” – Cheryl, MN, USA

Hello, PureCalm is working for me and I’m able to just jump up and go places now without thinking about the fear. I used to bite my finger nails, not any more they are soooo long. Thank you.- Anita, IL, USA

“I have found PureCalm extremely useful in my tapering off of a very addictive drug. It really works and I feel almost instant relief. The drops are easy to use in water or juice. I am so happy that I have found Native Remedies. I am doing very well on my taper and feel no ill effects whatsoever. I will continue to use PureCalm even after my taper ends. Thank you so much.” – Chris, UK

I found this product by browsing the internet and I was very relieved when I found you. I have anxiety problems and my doctor gave me some pills which I did not take because I was scared of the side effects. I ordered PureCalm and it is great! All my symptoms are almost gone, no worries ever. Thanks, keep up the good work – Heidi, NC, USA

It seems most people feel a sense of negativity and guilt these days. For many people there’s no real reason for experiencing these emotions. If you’re like others who think these emotions are justified, you may be wondering how to free yourself from negative and guilty feelings.

People can feel guilty about any number of things. Some don’t think they’re working hard enough, while others feel guilty about working too much rather than being at home with their families. Do you feel guilty about the way a relationship has turned out? You wouldn’t be alone in having those feelings.

What about negativity? Some people feel bad about themselves because of past actions. Some have harbored negative emotions about others. There are any numbers of reasons why you may have held onto negative thoughts about yourself or others. It’s time to learn to let those negative and guilty feelings go. It’s also time to stop punishing yourself for past mistakes and learn to love yourself again. Read on to find out how.

* Realize harboring negativity or guilty feelings doesn’t do you any good. In fact, those emotions don’t do anyone any good. Since they’re not productive in any way, shape or form, it’s time to let them go.

* Letting go of negative emotions is a lot easier than most people think. Once you realize these feelings won’t help you but are probably hurting you, it’s easier to release them once and for all.

* Imagine taking all of the guilty feelings and negativity you’ve kept hidden in the recesses of your heart and mind. Roll them into a compact ball you can hold in your hand. Simply let the ball drop to the ground. Don’t try to catch it if it bounces; rather let it bounce and roll away and then leave it there.

* Say out loud, “I forgive myself for ___________” and then fill in the blank. You may have a laundry list of things you think you’ve done wrong. If you have to, write everything down and repeat that statement using the next phrase each subsequent statement. Once you’ve gone through your entire list of items to forgive yourself for, either tear up the paper the list was written on or burn the list entirely in an empty metal garbage can or fireplace. You can do the same thing for each person you feel has done you wrong or that you need to forgive.

* Choose to do something which will make you feel good about yourself. Go for a bike ride, take a weekend trip, or go to see a movie. You need to realize the negativity and guilt feelings are gone. You deserve to feel good. Now go find something you can do which will accomplish this.

* Surround yourself with friends who are encouraging rather than discouraging. This may mean you’ll have to make some changes, but in this case change is good and productive.

There may be times when you begin having these negative feelings again, but that doesn’t mean you have to hold onto those emotions. Now you know how to free yourself from negative and guilty feelings you’ll be better prepared to deal with them right away. Life’s too short to deal with negativity and guilt; let it go and feel good about yourself!

Old age brings a significant reduction in mental and physical abilities. This translates into an inability to fight disease and handle difficult situations. This sudden reduction in capabilities causes depression due to low self-esteem. Strength of character and previous achievements are no guarantee against depression as it can occur even without any visible precipitating factor. Certain drugs and medication can be used to treat depression. However, over-prescription of these very drugs can cause further depression if not ingested carefully.

Apart from the conventional medications, there are other methods of treating depression naturally like psychotherapy or ‘talk therapy’. There are also natural remedies for depression like herbs, homeopathy meditation, hot baths and other relaxation techniques.

For older people doctors normally choose antidepressants that work upon brain chemicals called neurotransmitters responsible for moods, thought and behaviors. One such category of antidepressants that is in use nowadays is SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). For psychotic depression that is accompanied by hallucinations and delusions, an antipsychotic drug is prescribed along with an antidepressant.

Factors that should be kept in mind once you start taking antidepressants include:

* Management of side effects.
* Interaction of other drugs that you might be taking.
* Dosage.
* Withdrawal symptoms on discontinuation.

SSRIs have fewer and more manageable side effects but they can interact with other drugs and cause serious damage. You should ensure that you indicate all medication that you are taking to the physician before you actually start the medication. Your alcohol intake, including wine and beer, is another matter that should be discussed with your doctor as hard drinks can interfere with antidepressants. Once on the medication, it is important to disclose all changes that may occur.

Psychotherapy is of little or no use in cases where older people are suffering from dementia, which is a mental deterioration of organic or functional origin. In most other cases, psychotherapy is a safe way of treating depression. Depending upon the condition of the patient, different types of psychotherapy are used to treat mild depression as a standalone therapy or in conjunction with medication.

* Cognitive behavioral therapy – to identify and correct pessimistic thoughts and beliefs.
* Interpersonal therapy – to improve relationship issues that might be the cause behind depression.
* Supportive therapy – to provide emotional support.
* Problem solving therapy – to help in managing problems.

Psychotherapy involves visiting a psychiatrist who ‘talks’ to the patient – alone or in a group. Psychologists may even ask older people to do some ‘home work’ in order to put the therapy to practical use. It is a slow but effective procedure and requires a concerted effort before it can show significant results.

Family support goes a long way in treating depression in older people. Older people need help and specific guidance as they are less likely to take care of the condition themselves. Late life depression can be a source of problem not only for the person suffering from it but also for the family and care givers. The family needs to adjust to the abnormal behavior of a loved one lest symptoms are aggravated. Depression in older people needs to be managed with a great amount of patience and perseverance. Untreated depression is the most common cause of suicide in America and older people are at double the risk of suicide than the national average.

If they’ve had the problem their whole life, it’s something they simply see as a normal part of life.

We’ve all felt anxious at one point or another; it’s a perfectly normal response to stress.

Anxiety disorders are the most common of all mental health disorders and affect the lives of millions of people every year, including approximately 19 million in the U.S. alone.

If you are one of them, you may wonder if your symptoms are are some of the tell-tale symptoms of anxiety disorder, and if there are behavioral and medical treatments that might be effective for you.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is caused by a normal response that the body has to either a threat or danger.

When confronted with a situation the brain searches for a similar event so that it can decide how to react. If there is no such event in storage then your body must react chemically.

At this point you would enter what is called a fight of flight mode. When a fight or flight mode is entered then you will likely experience symptoms such as sweaty palms or a racing heart.

You will then either become aggressive and stand up for yourself or run like the wind.

Feeling fear and anxiety actually helps us to cope and accurately respond to stressful situations.

However, people with anxiety disorders feel stress even if there is no trigger there to set it off. This can cause problems with their mental health, personal relationships, jobs, and physical health.

The Different Types of Anxiety Disorders

Not all anxiety disorders are the same; there are actually several different classes.

Plus, just because someone has one disorder doesn’t mean they can’t have another, or at least have some overlapping symptoms.

Here’s an overview of the broad types of anxiety disorders and their symptoms:

Generalized anxiety disorder – While its normal for people to worry occasionally about things when there are lots of stressors, people with generalized anxiety disorder tend to never stop worrying.

They may be worried about finances even if they’re not tight, or constantly expecting bad things to happen even when they don’t. This constant stress can also lead to physical symptoms like fatigue, headaches, muscle aches, trembling, twitching, hot flashes, sweating, and difficulty swallowing.

Panic disorder – Unlike generalized anxiety disorder, people with panic disorder don’t have anxiety all the time. Anxiety attacks hit suddenly and without warning or cause.

An anxiety or panic attack is characterized by tight, pounding chest, terror, difficulty breathings, dizziness, shaking, nausea, numbness is extremities, chills or hot flashes, and a fear of losing control.

Social anxiety disorder – This is also known as social phobia and is an extreme fear of social interaction. People with this disorder are constantly worried about people judging them or about being embarrassed in front of people.

For some people, the disorder is so severe they don’t participate in normal socializing activities and some are even mute in certain situations.

Post traumatic stress disorder – This diagnosis has become much more prevalent in the past few years. Often, people become ridden with anxiety after a traumatic event and constantly worry about similar situations happening again.

For more severe cases, the person can be left unable to live their normal life again. While stressful events trigger the symptoms, not everyone in a similar situation will develop PTSD.

Obsessive compulsive disorder – This is an anxiety disorder that includes persistent unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions). Someone may obsess over germs and then compulsively clean and sanitize.

Compulsive behavior often includes rituals that must be done before a person can go on with their daily lives and activities.

Do You Have an Anxiety Disorder?

The problem with some anxiety disorders is that many people don’t even realize they have them. If they’ve had the problem their whole life, it’s something they simply see as a normal part of life.

Others will likely just see them as overprotective or simply a worry wart and just write it off. While it may just seem like an inconvenience, it can build into a real problem.

The good news is that these disorders and their tell-tales symptoms are treatable. There are many new medications and therapies that can help you live a normal, healthy life.

And, there are effective natural remedies including herbs and homeopathy which can greatly improve symptoms and attacks.

We Recommend:

There has been a lot of talk about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) involving military troops so I thought I would write a little to inform you of what exactly it is.

What is PTSD and Its Symptoms?

PTSD occurs when someone goes through severe trauma and feels intense fear, horror or helplessness.

When a person goes through such a horrible event, they are often unable to resume their lives normally.

It often leaves them unable to deal with daily routines because they are stuck with terrible memories that they cannot shake.

A major symptom of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is actually the very real feeling that they are experiencing the same event over and over.

Diagnosing PTSD

Your doctor or psychologist will ask you many questions regarding the symptoms you have been experiencing. They will also be interested in what event you think caused the PTSD in the first place. Details about the event you experienced will be very important to them.

The doctor will also want to know how you feel about the event in the present. You will probably be asked questions about how your symptoms affect your day to day life and want details on any social problems you are currently having.

It might be really hard to share your experiences with the doctor because it means you have to relive them, once again.

You really need to go through with it, though, so you can get back to your normal life.

Keep in mind that you might experience symptoms just a few days after the event but the doctor will not officially diagnose you until the symptoms have persisted for a month or more.

PTSD Treatment Options

There are many different options available for the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder. Most doctors will not recommend using heavy psychological drugs right after the event, though.

They might recommend less strong drugs for their sedative effect. Using drugs has the potential of making a person feel like they do not need to work as hard to get through the trauma. This can actually complicate things in the future.

Some of the drugs that are commonly prescribed for PTSD are Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, Librium, Prozac, Paxil, Tofranil, Lexapro, Catapres, Tenex and Inderal.

Make sure that you are fully aware of any side effects and ask your doctor a lot of questions.

Some of these drugs are extremely addictive and the side effects can be quite severe.

However, prescription drugs are not the only remedies available which will help with the symptoms and stress associated with PTSD.

Experiencing a panic attack for the first time can be distressing not only because of the actual experience during the attack but also because you tend to develop fear of future attacks.

Also known as anticipatory anxiety, fear of future attacks causes continuous fear and tension disabling you to relax.

Often when the condition is not addressed, it will lead to phobic avoidance wherein you avoid places, situations, gatherings, and events where emergency help is not readily available or where having an attack can be embarrassing.

Taken to the extreme, the condition of panic attacks may lead to agoraphobia where you begin to avoid many of the activities you would normally enjoy.

To avoid this, consider the following advice:

1. Consult your medical doctor. Symptoms attributed to panic attacks such as a racing heart, chest pain, heavy breathing, profuse sweating, agitation, etc., are also common to other physiological and psychological conditions.

Seeking proper diagnosis from your doctor, therefore, will rule out any cause unrelated to anxiety. Tell him your symptoms, when did the attack happen, and how intense the attack was. Your doctor will ask about your past medical history and may run some tests (e.g. urine test, blood test, drug screens, etc.).

2. See a therapist who is properly trained to handle this type of psychological condition. No, you are not crazy (people who go to a therapist are not crazy).

The reason why you have to see a therapist is to process your emotions and to help prevent future attacks. Do not wait too long to seek help.

Left untreated, a panic attack can lead to more severe conditions. Your therapist may suggest cognitive-behavioral therapy and exposure therapy to help process your thoughts.

3. Find the cause of the attack. Some cases of panic attacks may show a “pattern” certain activity, thoughts, time or person you are with at the time of the attack. These give you important clues to eliminate later symptoms.

4. Learn some relaxation techniques you can practice at home or while out. Music, meditation, yoga, and breathing techniques are not only helpful in reducing the symptoms during the actual attack, but also in strengthening your body’s relaxation response.

5. Do not add more fear. Absorbing all the fears and other negative thoughts that come with anxiety attack only adds more fear which worsens the negative impact. Instead, recognize that you are afraid and make it work to your advantage.

6. Practice healthy lifestyle (regular exercise, balanced diet, and enough sleep). Studies prove that at little as 30 minutes of physical activity 3 to 5 times a week is a great stress buster, and helpful in preventing future attacks.

Balanced diet keeps the supply of nutrients and maintains the balance of chemicals in the body. Sleeping at least 8 hours each night recharges the body, refreshes the mind, and calms the muscles.

7. Remove all unnecessary stress. Since, panic attacks are closely linked to stress, avoiding things, people, and situations that stress you out helps reduce the chance of future attacks.

8. Educate yourself about panic attacks. There are many resources where you can learn more about this condition.

Reading books, health magazines and internet articles about panic attacks will definitely equip you with the right information on how to combat any negative effects it brings.

9. MindSoothe is a specially formulated herbal remedy that has been successfully used in the treatment of Depression, Insomnia, OCD, SAD, Panic Disorder, and Anxiety.

There are several things that can lead to them.

A phobia is a fear that is so intense it causes a person to quit functioning rationally and normally. There is a big difference between a normal fear and a phobia.

When someone is simply afraid of something there is a good chance that that something could actually cause them physical or mental harm.

Phobias are different because the fear that is experienced is not rational and could not normally cause the person any type of harm.

Let’s say that someone has a phobia about mice. In reality, the mice cannot actually harm us; but to someone with a phobia the mouse might pose a life and death danger, which is imagined.

If you consider your fear to have reached proportions that are irregular then it would be wise to visit a psychologist. They will ask many questions about how you feel when you are afraid and how it affects your life.

Try and keep a journal recording these types of things so that when your doctor asks you do not have to rely on your memory for information.

Commonly, phobias appear alongside other psychological disorders like anxiety or depression. Abuse of alcohol or drugs can also contribute to the problem. The doctor will want to make sure that none of these other problems are contributing to your phobia.

Phobias do not typically appear for no reason. There are several things that can lead to them. The first, and most common, is experiencing a traumatic experience first hand. An example of a direct experience would be a child nearly drowning and developing a phobia of water.

The second type of trigger is a false alarm. A person might experience a panic attack during a social gathering and begin to relate it to the situation.

Observing others has also been known to cause people to develop phobias. A good example of this would be a young one hearing screams from a peer in a dentist chair and then becoming utterly afraid themselves.

The last reason that people develop phobias is word of mouth. This is really easy for parents to do to children because their minds are so malleable. A parent telling their child about how dangerous and scary spiders are can develop an irrational, lifelong fear of them. So, make sure you are careful about what you tell your child!

There are many things you can do to help yourself deal with a phobia. Try using herbs such as St. John’s Wort, Valerian, Scullcap and Passiflora Incarnata for their ability to lower anxiety and calming effects. Meditation and deep breathing exercise can also prove very helpful!

PureCalm is a natural, safe and effective liquid herbal formula that works quickly to eliminate symptoms of tension, anxiety, stress, panic attacks and irritability. PureCalm helps maintain balanced emotions during everyday pressure, stress and common nervous tension.

Some folks who survive with phobias might not be impacted by them as much as some other people. Here are ways that phobias might bear upon a person’s life.

We have all heard about some wild phobias such as the dread of the number thirteen or the fear of milk or corpses. These types of phobias, although unrealistic, do not frequently affect people to the degree of immobilizing them.

You can conceivably keep your distance from corpses and the number thirteen if you’re heedful. You will be able to still live a normal life.

Only, there are other phobias that can be incredibly detrimental. Phobias are part of a class of mental illness that includes anxiety and fear. The difference between anxiety and phobias is that anxiety typically encircles a situation or event and typically lessens once you’re removed from the situation. Avoiding the situation may help you to block off the attacks.

With phobias, there are 3 types: social, specific and agoraphobia. Social phobia circles around others and social situations. This may be something similar to the fear of public speaking or being in a gang of people. That can be difficult to manage in day-to-day life if you must take the metro to work or travel a great deal on airplanes for your line of work. You’re not frightened of people per se, but the dissimilar situations regarding them.

Specific phobias surround a certain object or matter. You might be scared of dogs. This might even be sparked by seeing a dog and imagining what they might do to you. If you’re fearful of escalators or elevators, you may have a problem going into buildings that rise above the 1st couple floors. It’s not always convenient to take the stairway.

Agoraphobia is the fear of being cornered in a public place. Many agoraphobics avoid certain public places due to the fear of going through an attack there. In serious cases, they do not venture out of their homes into the public.

Any phobia has the potential to become debilitating if it in some way will clash with your lifestyle. There’s no definitive answer as to why certain folks develop phobias. Some might be due to trauma or injury that continues echoing itself in the brain like a bad film loop.

At any rate, even though the rational mind acknowledges that the likelihood of the perceived fear occurring is low, the remainder of the body declines to accept this.

Treatment Options for Phobia

Unless the fear is interfering with life, treatment might not be sought. In other cases, a therapist might attempt a number of relaxation techniques, behavior therapy, alternative therapies, stress management and eating regimens to address the specific phobia being experienced. Medicine therapy such as antidepressants might be prescribed in some cases to accompany or be in lieu of other varieties of treatment.

Natural Herbal and Homeopathic Remedies for Phobia

Lonesomeness may set in when there’s no one familiar to pass time with.

This is a topic very near and dear to my heart. The elderly in our society tend to be the ‘forgotten generation.’

What makes this so very tragic, besides the fact that these individuals helped the next generation get to whee they are, is that our senior citizens are a treasured resource of historical information and perspective.

I’ve worked hard to instill a deep respect for the elderly in my children. After all, when you are dealing with an aged parent, you are basically looking at your own future.

Our society has gone from one which honors age and experience to one that worships youth. And I truly do not think this has been a ‘step up’ for us.

When folks think of nursing homes, they frequently visualize places with muted walls and the aroma of disinfectant. If that depresses you, think about those who dwell in them. If you know a senior who’s moved into a nursing home, you are able to help them to still sustain a high quality of life there.

Nursing homes are generally a final stop for numerous seniors. By final stop we mean that this is where they’ll expend the remainder of their years. Many can no longer see to themselves or have medical issues that warrant a certain degree of care that other family members can’t cater.

Now that we know why they are there, let’s consider what it’s like for them. Which one of us would willingly abandon our independence? Numerous seniors have abandoned theirs to live in a nursing home.

An illness or merely becoming older has prevented them from staying in their own home surrounded by their own things and living life on their terms.

The act of taking that away from them may be devastating. In a nursing home, they’ll not be surrounded by friends or family as they at one time were.

More than likely they’ll share their room with a stranger. It becomes almost like living in a dormitory with meal times.

Loneliness may be a ceaseless struggle for nursing home occupants. But there are ways that you are able to help seniors to deal with that emotion:

* Visit frequently – If the occupant happens to be a relative of yours, travel to them as frequently as you are able to. They may feel isolated without family. Having a visit on a regular schedule gives them something to look forward to. Bring as many family members with you as you are able to.

* Take them out – You might not be able to visit long if you reside far away, but you are able to sign your loved one out for the day and have a visit away from the nursing home. See a film, go out to dinner or merely attend the mall. Any time spent outside makes it feel less like a prison.

* Call or write – Everybody loves to get mail. It requires only around 30 minutes to craft and send a letter. Be sure that your loved one has a telephone in their room to hear from you on a regular basis.

* Inquire about social activities – Get a senior involved in what is going on in the nursing home. Many have exercise sessions, singing and other activities planned to help the patients meet and mingle. Accompany them the 1st time so they do not feel uncomfortable.

Living in a nursing home can be very difficult. Lonesomeness may set in when there’s no one familiar to pass time with. Utilize these tips to help a senior fight back and continue to live a productive life.

High blood pressure is a condition that cuts across all the age groups. It is important not to neglect this condition and one should get help as soon as he or she is diagnosed. It is a symptom of stress and anxiety and should be diagnosed properly since the blood pressure in a normal person can fluctuate during the day due to the effect of stress, anxiety, alcohol intake and the likes.

To confirm a case of high blood pressure, persistent elevated readings should be recorded at different times during the day, on different days and in different circumstances. It is a well-established fact that acute stress and anxiety can lead to a momentary increase in blood pressure due to changes in the flow pattern of blood from the heart.

Chronic anxiety can lead to prolonged hypertension. Anxiety disorder has been linked with increased risk for hypertension and cardiovascular mortality. Close to seventy percent of all the high blood pressure problems are linked to emotional stress or anxiety during difficult situations. Conversely, higher levels of anxiety have been found in hypertensive subjects. When this phenomenon becomes recurrent, it can lead to long-term permanent damage like heart attacks, kidney failure or liver failure.

Also, when one is anxious it is easy to resort to other unhealthy habits like smoking and drinking, which can further aggravate the problem. Hence it is critical that the treatment being administered for controlling high blood pressure should also provide anxiety relief.

Here are some tips which can help you manage your condition of high blood pressure and at the same time will help in providing relief from anxiety. One should eat regular meals and avoid stimulants like coffee. Preference should be given to foods that are natural like fruits, whole grains etc. It is also important to exercise regularly. It will help relieve tension and also boost the cardiovascular system.

However, it is prudent to consult your doctor before embarking on an exercise regimen. It is equally important to get adequate rest since it will relax the muscles and help in relieving the buildup of stress and anxiety. If nothing works, it is advisable to consult your doctor for medication to address your blood pressure as well as providing relief from anxiety.

Since these medications have their side effects, it is wise to evaluate the natural treatments for anxiety relief in consultation with your doctor. This can help you provide complete relief from anxiety, thereby eliminating the root cause of your high blood pressure.

This is caused by your bodys immune system. Multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease, can cause a loss of balance, vision, muscle control, and a numbing feeling.

Multiple sclerosis affects the central nervous system, the spinal column and the brain. Normal tissues are attacked if you are the victim of an autoimmune disease. A woman is more likely to have multiple sclerosis than a man is and rarely before the teen years.

Symptoms of multiple sclerosis are numerous and variable from person to person. The most notable symptoms of multiple sclerosis are vision disturbances, memory or concentration issues, and muscle weakness.

Everyone has experienced depression at some time in his or her life. It is a feeling of hopelessness and sadness. Depending on its severity, it can overcome us and interfere with our daily routine. Mild depression is common, but when it overtakes us and lasts for long periods of time, help should be sought out. This mental illness can grow larger and loom over us and can also have a devastating outcome.

It is important to seek help if you experience any of the following symptoms:

Concentration difficulties
Unusual fatigue with a loss of energy
Extreme sadness
Crying for long periods of time with no relief
Losing interest in things that you normally have enjoyed
Being irritable
Sleeping more than usual
A lack of self-esteem and feeling like you are not important
Feeling that you or your situation is hopeless
Gastrointestinal problems
Being unsure of your decisions, wavering back and forth with your thoughts and choices
Lack of interest in sex and sexual difficulties in general
Insomnia
Persistent or recurring headaches
A general achiness and pains throughout the body
Expressing wishes of death or suicidal ideations
Changes in weight, either a loss or gain, brought on by appetite changes

Depression with multiple sclerosis is a common occurrence. A person with multiple sclerosis is under increased stress and encounters many physical challenges. The worry alone concerning their health will cause them be at an increased risk for depression.

Another reason why depression is not surprising in a multiple sclerosis victim is that multiple sclerosis itself can bring about depression due to its destruction of the insulation that is around the nerves. This insulation is called the myelin and it affects your mood when it is unable to carry out its job of transmitting their signals. Some medications used to treat multiple sclerosis patients can also cause depression.

Help for depression is readily obtainable and should be sought out before it becomes severe. Your physician can refer you to a mental health professional who can help you in treating your depression. Treatment for depression is done through counseling, support groups, and medication.

Do not wait to get help for depressive symptoms. Nobody has to suffer with depression and deserves an enriched quality of life. Seek help at the first sign of troublesome depressive symptoms and look forward to a brighter tomorrow.

As humans, we are a mix of emotional states. One minute we cry and the next we laugh. An even bigger mix is the types of situations that can bring on these emotional changes. It shouldn’t be surprising that your teenager has them too. But, one of the most destructive and mismanaged emotions is anger.

Anger has led to a lot of poor choices and rash decisions. To know this, all you have to do is read the newspaper. Murders, thefts, insidious plots have all begun from a point of anger. On the other hand, so have marches against injustice and new legislation in the government. The difference is how the angry feelings were handled.

One of the daunting jobs of a parent is to help their children manage their emotional states. While we can never control what another person says or does, we can control our response to it. That sense of control comes with a responsibility.

Teenagers can be impetuous. When they are happy, they are on top of the world and so outgoing and giddy. When they are in the dumps, they may hide in their rooms, shunning friends and family. It is a swing of the pendulum from one side to the other.

Successfully dealing with anger begins at home. Ninety-five percent of the time, our children learn their coping skills by watching us even when we don’t know that they are watching. Setting a good example is square one for managing anger.

How do we manage our own angry feelings? Do we sit down and talk about it, or do we say things that we shouldn’t and then have to apologize later?

Look at your child. You can tell when they are not in a good mood. Maybe they are slamming doors or stomping around the house. Talk to them and find out what is the matter. It could be romantic trouble, trouble at school or difficulty dealing with a personal issue. If they don’t want to talk right then, let them know that you are available when they want to discuss the problem.

When you do talk, ask them to take a deep breath first. It is easier to view a situation when you are calm. Once you hear the story, you can suggest ways that they can deal with their anger. For one, help them to look past the insult and see what may be causing it. Someone may lash out in anger because they are upset about something else. Sympathizing with the other person can often diffuse an angry situation.

Teach them to learn their anger triggers. We all have them. Knowing them can help your teen to control their reactions when their “buttons are pushed.” After they have had time to think, then they can deal with the situation appropriately.

Does your teen have trouble with anger? Talk it out. Teach them to begin here so that they can end on a positive note. You can also investigate the possibility of using a natural remedy to help with anger management.

It can likewise improve your mood if you merely require a pick-me-up.

Here are a few ways that music therapy might help with conditions such as clinical depression, sadness and low mood.

Depression is a disorder that impacts the brain. Dissimilar levels of neurotransmitters that are responsible for mood changes may cause one neurotransmitter to become more deficient than another, contributing to a state of sorrow that does not seem to cease.

The type of chemical imbalance you have can decide the treatment for clinical depression, but for some, medication may be just about as uncomfortable as the condition itself.

Music therapy has been employed to help people with assorted sicknesses and mental conditions to manage their anguish and encourage healthy changes in the brain for more favorable results. It’s a Modern field of health care but has shown promise with conditions such as cancers, attention deficit disorder, autism, pain management and yes – clinical depression.

What is it about music that makes it so effective? Well, you’ve heard music. How does it make you feel? Consider the music in films. In horror flicks, the upbeat and foreboding melodies cause your blood pressure to ascend and your heart to race. In love films, the low, dulcet tones may lead to crying. There’s grounds for this.

Music is comprised of notes played in particular ways. These notes may arouse changes in your brainwaves. The way those beats come across might lead to brainwaves reverberating at the same frequency. Following suit with the brainwaves is the heartbeat and breathing functions. When songs feature a accelerated and arousing beat, your pulse rate and breathing are merely that much quicker.

On the flip side, listening to slow movements in music tend to slow down the respiration and bring down the pulse rate. This results in a near relaxation state that’s affected by musical notes.

Depression places you in a particular cognitive state. So can hearing music. Think of a few of your favored songs. What images and feelings do they conjure? By using well-known songs and those that effectuate a relaxed or improved psychological state, you will be able to begin to battle feelings of depression, without prescription medication.

You can look up a trained music therapist or listen to music yourself and acquire your own therapeutic regimen. Music therapy is being shown to bear on blood pressure, hike up immunity, lessen muscle tension and affect the body in terms of reduced stress levels.

Did You Know You Can Tune Your Body?

Like adjusting a piano, your body can be tuned to achieve optimal physical balance. Tapping two BioSonic tuning forks will instantaneously alter your body’s biochemistry and bring your nervous system, muscle tone and organs into harmonic balance. In seconds … your body enters a deep state of relaxation. Feeling centered, your mind will be at peace…

Experience states of deep relaxation in seconds, reduce stress instantaneously, increase blood flow, enhance immune response, fully integrate body & mind, and transcend to higher levels of consciousness by using tuning forks. BioSonic’s precision-tested tuning forks are easy to learn, simple to use and the healing benefits are miraculous.
What is Prescription Drug Abuse?

Prescription drug abuse is defined as using a drug that is legal with a prescription for other than its intended purpose, or in doses greater than what was originally prescribed, or using the drugs without having a valid prescription.

For example, if your doctor prescribes Vicodin for back pain and you continue take it once the back pain has passed, that qualifies as prescription drug abuse.

The most commonly abused prescription drugs fall into one of three categories: stimulants, such as Adderall and Ritalin; central nervous system depressants, such as Valium; and opioids, including Vicodin, Fentanyl and OxyContin.

Prevalence of Subscription Drug Abuse

Prescription drug abuse falls under the category of illicit drug use which, according to the National Institute of Drug Abuse, has been steadily rising since 2011 with an estimated 22.5 million people over the age of 12 using. The highest instances of illicit drug use occur among teens and young adults, both in the state of Michigan and nationwide, with adults over fifty also showing increasing numbers.

The Dangers of Prescription Drug Abuse

The commonly abused prescription drugs are all volatile substances that require careful dosing and monitoring by a medical professional. Opioids and central nervous system depressants cause drowsiness and can slow down brain function, heart rate and breathing. Stimulants cause anxiety, elevated blood pressure and an irregular heartbeat.

Improper use of opioids and central nervous system depressants can lead to loss of consciousness, respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest. Improper use of stimulants can cause seizures, cardiac arrest and stroke. Mixing prescription drugs with alcohol and other drugs increases the danger.

Treatment Options

Treatment options for prescription drug abuse vary depending on the type of drug and the reason the addict is taking the drug.

For example, people with chronic pain could become dependent on their medication and cross the line from use to abuse. In those instances, the best drug rehabilitation method involves helping the addict manage his pain while weaning him off the addictive substance.

The best drug rehabilitation approach is to put the patient through a medically-supervised detox, to clear the drug from his system, before embarking on a treatment plan. A medically-supervised detox can reduce the severity of the early withdrawal symptoms, by allowing the staff to monitor the patient’s condition and provide adequate treatment. If the patient is also addicted to alcohol, a medically-supervised detox will prevent potentially fatal alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Once the addict has completed detox, which normally takes a few days, he can then start the rehabilitation process. For opioid addicts this could involve the use of opioid blockers such as Naltrexone, and cognitive behavior therapy to treat the psychological causes for the addiction.

For non-opioid addicts treatment could involve the use of cognitive behavior therapy and other psychological techniques to address the psychological and emotional causes for the addiction.

Whether an addict uses an outpatient or residential rehabilitation program depends on a variety of factors and circumstances. An addict ordered to treatment by the courts, such as Michigan’s drug court, could be required to spend a minimum number of days in a residential treatment program.

Addicts who self-refer could end up in an outpatient program depending on finances, personal preferences, and state resources. The Best Drug Rehabilitation Michigan includes group and individual counseling, exercise programs, nutritional training, weekly educational seminars, and ongoing aftercare services.

Managing depression is a key requirement for all depression cases since the condition can have a significant impact on daily life and interactions with other people. Medication and therapy can help in various ways but it is essential that an individual should learn the various methods which he can utilize to control depression. Managing depression can, however, get quite difficult if you do not have a full understanding of the specific history and the cause behind the condition.

But before we move on to the specifics of managing depression, it is vital to understand the difference between psychotic and neurotic depression. Psychotic depression is a severe state of depression where the afflicted loses contact with reality and suffers a variety of functional impairments. Neurotic depression is a mental or personality disturbance that is not attributable to any known neurological or organic dysfunction. Whereas psychotic depression is difficult to treat without medication, neurotic depression can be managed with the aid of psychological treatments as well as antidepressant drugs.

Treating depression naturally involves psychotherapy and natural remedies for depression like herbs, relaxation techniques and homeopathy. Interpersonal Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy are common modes of treating depression that are used to correct faulty cognition and improve relationship skills.

It is not true to say that only drugs and psychotherapy can elevate moods. And this is especially true for mild to moderate depression cases. There are natural ways of mood elevation and getting out of depressive feelings.

Many times depression is a direct result of knee-jerk responses. If you do not stop to consider the end result of your statements and actions before making them, you are liable to add to stress, anxiety and depression. Grandma’s recipe of counting till ten before you react to any provocation stands in good stead to diffuse tensions.

Some level of depression occurs when you feel out of control. It will surprise you to know how an organized personal environment can be an effective mood elevator in such cases. ‘Find a place for everything and put everything in place’. You will be amazed at the boost that your self confidence gets from this. Organize your stuff and keep a schedule for jobs that you need to complete during the day.

Depression can worsen with unsolved conflicts that keep simmering over time. Instead of adding to tension and depression, it is a sound policy to make amends. Most of the times, it is only a matter of saying, ‘I am sorry’ to diffuse tensions and avoid depression.

Nature is a great stress reliever and a mood elevator. Even a walk in the park or at the beach helps to calm fazed nerves.

All work and no play make a dull person and also give rise to depressed feelings. Make sure that you get some time off to relax and have fun, preferably a couple of hours everyday.

Depression is usually the result of negative perceptions, feelings and emotions about something. These lead to negative ‘self talk’. Writing is another mode of ‘self talk’. Try to maintain a journal and see the difference it makes to your approach to life situations. Make sure that you try and positive while writing. Another way to ensure that you are moving forward rather than backwards is to go back and read some of your thoughts. In a different mood, you may realize that some of the writings mentioned have a negative perspective. This will help you identify what you should change, going forward. This can provide a new perspective and alternative solutions for a problem.

You may find it difficult to talk about your feelings but if you convince yourself that you are out to find a solution to your depressed feelings, you are bound to succeed. Talking to family members, friends or dedicated support groups in the community will help in sharing fears. Valuable inputs can be found when you share your experiences with others.

Mild and neurotic depression is relatively easy to manage. All it takes is a little bit of resolve and determination at self help. It is erroneous to believe that drugs or alcohol will cure you of the condition. Both give rise to temporary ‘feel good’ moods and the after effects can be worse than depression.

The medicines that include Passiflora may cause drowsiness, so the dosage guidelines must be followed and care should be taken while driving or handling machinery.

Over 20 million adults in the U.S. are suffering from depression, and many of them have explored the use of antidepressant medication to help alleviate their symptoms.

Not all people who suffer from depression choose to use medication; oftentimes, therapy alone is enough to successfully treat the condition. But those who do are faced with a variety of options — including herbal ones.

Antidepressants are more widely used to treat serious depression than mild depression. There are several kinds of antidepressants, all of which work slightly differently.

One common type is the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). This type of medication specifically targets the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is essential in monitoring mood. Commonly prescribed SSRIs include Prozac, Paxil, Luvox and Zoloft.

Another kind of antidepressant is the monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). MAOIs are usually only recommended to patients with atypical symptoms, and are not usually the first type of antidepressant prescribed to a person. If a patient is not responding to other types of antidepressants, a doctor may recommend an MAOI.

MAOIs work by reducing the amount of monoamine oxidase in the brain. Monoamine oxidase is the substance that breaks down neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepenephrine, which help regulate mood. Reducing the amount of monoamine oxidase in the system can help restore brain chemical balance. Nardil and Parnate are examples of MAOIs.

While prescription antidepressants can work for some patients, they also produce an alarming amount of side effects in many cases. Sexual dysfunction, nausea, diarrhea and headaches are just a few of the commonly reported side effects. Even more disturbingly, these medications can also cause thoughts of suicide, particularly in younger patients.

Many who are fed up with the side effects of antidepressants (or who simply don’t want to risk them in the first place) turn instead to natural remedies for depression. Some remedies have proven to be so effective that they outsell prescription medications in some markets.

St. John’s Wort, for example, is one of the herbal treatments for depression that works so well that in Germany, it outsells many major prescription antidepressants. St. John’s Wort is believed to boost serotonin levels in the brain, naturally lifting spirits and alleviating feelings of depression.

There are many other natural ingredients that are effective in treating depression, including passion flower, ginko biloba, and kava kava, among others. You should always consult a doctor before beginning or ending any prescription medication, and if you decide to pursue the option of treating depression naturally, remember to give the medication time to take effect. Whatever choice you make, patience and perseverance in exploring the options on your list of depression medication will ultimately lead you to a happier, healthier life.

Have you heard the saying, We are what we eat? Its true enough. But, we also change how we feel according to what we eat. Here are some examples of five foods that can alter our moods for the better.

Eating comfort foods makes us feel better. Our brain releases endorphins as we enjoy every satisfying bite. Did you know that? Food makes us feel good.

Some foods that make us feel better:

1. Tea Drinking tea does wonders for the body. The caffeine in tea has been linked to improvements in mood. Caffeine increases alertness and our ability to function well. Many people rely on caffeine each day in some form to wake up and get the body moving. The rush we feel motivates us to get going with our daily tasks. Tea is healthier than drinking soda. There are many kinds of tea. Green tea provides antioxidants to the body. Antioxidants prevent disease and slow the aging process.

2. Chocolate Women always knew they were right. This is not just any chocolate though. Dark chocolate contains the largest percentage of pure cocoa. It works to increase our mood. Serotonin levels rise and so do the happy feelings. People who ate chocolate on a consistent basis noticed they had more energy as well as a better outlook on life. Besides that, the calories obtained from this chocolate dont outweigh the benefits of eating dark chocolate. The rest of the diet can be adjusted to account for it.

3. Salmon This cold water fish contains vitamin D as well as omega-3 fatty acids. Vitamin D is synthesized by skin cells after exposure to the sun. When the sun is not as forthcoming like in the winter months, we have to obtain it from other sources. The canned variety of salmon and fortified milk along with some vegetables provides vitamin D to our bodies along with supplements. Vitamin D increases serotonin which has to do with mood.

4. Walnuts Most tree nuts are good for you. They contain nutrients vital to health and healthy fats. Walnuts contain omega-3 fatty acids just like salmon.

5. Lentils Lentils are part of the legume and bean family. They provide protein for the body to build muscle. Lentils release a lot of fiber when we eat them. Insoluble fiber carries a measure of fat from the food we eat out of the body as it passes through the digestive system. Folate is a component of lentils and it deals with brain activity and health.

A panic attack is a sudden attack of exaggerated anxiety and fear. Often, attacks happen without warning and without any apparent reason. Some people may experience just one episode of panic attack, while others can have recurring episodes. Recurring episodes usually happen after a person is exposed to various events or situations that may “trigger” panic. While it is generally harmless, panic attacks can severely disable a person physically, emotionally and psychologically. In extreme cases, panic attacks can lead to panic disorder.

Who gets panic attacks?

The condition affects many people. It is believed that 10% of the total population is suffering from panic attacks, yet many are still undiagnosed or under-diagnosed. They tend to occur more on young adults. Female are twice as prone to have an attack as male. It is also said that the condition is genetically inherited so panic attacks may run in the family.

How do I know if I am having an attack?

A panic attack can be identified with different signs and symptoms. They include increased heartbeat or palpitation, chest pain, hyperventilation or shortness of breath, stomach churning, upset stomach, trembling and shaking, muscle tension, sweating, dizziness and light-headedness, hot or cold flashes, tingling sensation or numbness, fear of dying, going crazy or losing control and feeling detached from the surroundings.

The signs and symptoms of panic attacks are similar to a heart attack. The former is not dangerous, the latter can be deadly. It is best therefore to seek for emergency medical help, especially if the patient experiences it for the first time.

What cause an attack?

Many panic attacks happen without any apparent reason; they just come out of the blue. However, attacks may be caused by past traumatic experiences such as death of a loved one, family conflicts, bad relationships, divorce of parents, car accident, public humiliation, etc. An attack may occur when a person is exposed to various events or situations almost similar to the past that may “trigger” panic.

Stress is closely linked to panic attacks. Triggers include stressful life event as well as stressful working and living environment. Genetics is also believed to cause an attack.

What should I do during an attack?

Panic attacks peak from 5 to 10 minutes; it rarely lasts for more than half an hour. But during this time, you can experience discomfort such as those signs and symptoms mentioned above. Since the increased in heart rate is the main reason for experiencing other symptoms, it is important to take control of your breathing during an attack. Breathe slowly and deeply as you can. Breathe in slowly for 3 counts then hold your breath for the next 3 slow counts. Then, exhale for 3 slow counts.

Do this until you are calm. If you are able to stand, get up slowly and walk around. It is also helpful to breathe into a plastic or a paper bag. This allows you to re-breathe your carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide helps correct the blood acid level that had been disturbed by excessive breathing.

While practicing deep breathing, try to focus your attention away from the cause of panic. Replace your anxious thoughts with happy ones. If available, do something that will occupy your mind such as solving puzzles and playing word games.

Kids and adults are both susceptible to having routine anxiety. Examples of things that can cause anxiety are: First day of school, bill collector’s calling and moving to a new house.

Beyond normal anxiety there are more serious disorders that some people go through. GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder), OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and panic disorders are all examples of more serious anxiety disorders.

Diagnosing an anxiety disorder is not a cut and dry task. Typically, the most important information is the mental records of the patient. The doctor will normally look over the history and then go from there. There is no way to diagnose an anxiety disorder by using a laboratory test.

A psychologist or psychiatrist must perform certain tests in order to determine what is causing it to happen to you. These tests actually rule out what is not causing you to have anxiety in order to pinpoint what your specific problem is.

The type of things they try to rule out are: alcohol/caffeine abuse, prescription medications, poor diet, recreational drugs and whether the work environment is an issue.

Keep in mind that the anxiety that I described above is different from experiencing fear. For example, if someone is robbing you and threatening with a knife then you are probably experiencing fear. Fear is a focused reaction to a specific event. Anxiety is the opposite. It is typically unfocused and not related to a single cause.

If you feel that you experience an abnormally high degree of anxiety then you should consult your doctor and see if there is anything they can do for you.

Chances are they will either give you a mild medication or refer you to a psychologist or psychiatrist. You might be dealing with an underlying problem that is much more serious. Living in constant anxiety is not worth going through. It can make life almost unbearable.

When you experience a loss in your life, it is expected that you will grieve. Even those who say that they are alright will touch on the five stages of grief as they seek to move on and put their lives back together.

Grief is not a one-day or two-day thing. People who say that it is are still in the first stage of it. Do yourself a favor and be patient in your grief. Trying to rush the process doesn’t work. The five stages of grief are detailed below.

Denial

This is the first stage of grief. You might think that denial is your way of coping but it is how you survive in the first few days after a loss.

Denial keeps you moving to do the hard things like plan funerals and deal with financial issues. You may even shun the protective arms of relatives who are trying to comfort you because you are not yet ready to accept the loss.

Anger

It seems inappropriate to yell at the dead, but it is part of the grief process. You feel hurt because this person has left you. In a divorce, you are angry that love has died and the relationship had to end. Many are angry at God for allowing such a thing to happen in their lives.

Bargaining

Sometimes this seems to happen first. On your way to the hospital or court, you believe everything is a bad dream and someone just has to wake you up. You pray, beg and plead that the circumstances be changed. You’ll promise everything including the moon in exchange for having that person back in your life.

Depression

This stage is the one you worry about. Loved ones can stay in a depressive state for a long time. Or, they may not come out of it and threaten to take their own life to stop feeling the pain. Depression is normal after a loss. Sitting in a chair in a dark room for days on end may be the way you meet this stage. Sometimes, when the depression gives way to suicidal thoughts, the intervention of a professional is needed to get them through to the last stage.

Acceptance

What you have lost is gone and not coming back. In the acceptance stage, that is when the tears can finally come. You might even think that they will not stop but eventually they will. During the acceptance stage, the loss is felt so keenly you might feel a part of you is dying also. There is fear in acceptance. It means that you have to move on past the loss and rebuild your life. Having family and friends around to lean on will see you through to a new life.

Grief is not easy to deal with but everyone will experience it in some form if they live long enough. Know the five grief stages so you can help a friend or yourself transition past a loss.

Depression isnt restricted to any particular age group, race or gender. Even among small children the problem can be persistent and will interfere with normal or regular behavior and activities. Children who suffer from depression have been treated with counseling, medication and behavior modification. As in an adult, the depression is a major episode when it interferes with the childs normal activities.

Problems with depression in children and teens can often be linked to heredity and more often affects children whose family has a history of depression. Prozac is prescribed for the treatment of depression and has been used in adults and children. It has also been used in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder and panic disorder.

Prozac belongs to a class of drugs called selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors or SSRIs. Serotonin is a chemical messenger or neurotransmitter that governs mood. Ordinarily it is quickly taken up and reabsorbed after release. The class of drugs of SSRIs slows the re-uptake process and leaves more Serotonin available in the brain.

Behavioral side effects of children on prozac can be varied. In fact there are serious warnings for both the medical professional and parents that prozac has been linked with suicide thinking and behavior in children and adolescents. Behavioral side effects of children on prozac also include other more benign side effects such as abnormal dreams and vision, increased anxiety, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, flu-like symptoms, gas, insomnia, itching, loss of appetite, nervousness, rash, sore throat, tremors, upset stomach, weakness and yawning.

There have been other more serious reactions with Prozac when it is used in combination with other antidepressant medications such as MAO inhibitors and when Prozac is discontinued and an MAO inhibitor is started. Once you have discontinued taking Prozac you must wait at least 5 weeks before starting an MAO inhibitor.

To help decrease the side effects from the medication and decrease the behavioral side effects of children on prozac you must take the medication exactly as it is prescribed. Usually Prozac is taken once or twice a day and it should be taken regularly. It can take up to four weeks before you feel any relief from the depression but the effects can last up to 9 months after a 3 month treatment regimen.

Although behavioral side effects of children on prozac can be different than those of an adult there are sensitivities that can be similar. If your child has ever taken one of the SSRIs an had an allergic reaction you shouldnt try Prozac. Never take Prozac while taking an MAO inhibitor or thioridazine (Mellaril).

In clinical studies the behavioral side effects of children on prozac were an increased risk of suicide thinking and behavior. Anyone considering the use of Prozac in children or adolescents must balance the risk against the current clinical need. Currently Prozac is FDA approved for major depression in children 8 and older or obsessive-compulsive disorder in children 7 and older.

Behavioral side effects of children on prozac can also include a progression of the behaviors associated with major depression that appear suddenly such as agitation, anxiety, hostility, panic, extreme hyperactivity, restlessness or thoughts of suicide. These sudden behavioral side effects of children on prozac can happen at the beginning or end of treatment or when the dose is changed.

Behavioral side effects of children on prozac can also occur when it is abruptly withdrawn. As with any of the other SSRIs Prozac should be slowly tapered when you discontinue it.

Prozac and other SSRI antidepressants are an option for the treatment of depression in children. However, parent and doctors must weigh the risks vs. the benefits of the use of SSRIs for depression when the risks include a known risk of suicide.

Chronic anxiety is a problem that can touch every aspect of your life.

Working, going to school, running errands, and even just spending time with your loved ones can become exercises in courage and self-control.

Nothing can replace the help of a medical professional when it comes to managing mental health issues, but there are things that you can do to cope with your anxiety naturally on your own.

What is an Anxiety Attack?

What we call an anxiety attack is really your body slipping into its acute stress response, or fight-or-flight instinct. While it’s likely that you are not in mortal danger from a hungry predator, for some reason the chemicals in your brain are behaving as though that is exactly what’s going on.

Understanding this process can help you to find ways to calm yourself and make it easier to cope before, during, and after an attack.

Combating Anxiety with Exercise

One of the best ways to combat an anxiety attack is to engage in some mild cardio. Taking a walk, going for a swim, or doing some resistance training will help to burn off that excessive adrenalin and return you to a more peaceful frame of mind.

At the very least it will reduce muscle tension and give you a reason to go you into the fresh air. More importantly, gentle cardiovascular exercise has been shown to release endorphins in the brain, which are happy chemicals that can sooth you and produce positive feelings.

Although some people recommend other forms of exercise such as running or cycling, there is evidence that suggests that these may not be a great idea for people who struggle with anxiety.

High intensity workouts can actually raise the levels of cortisol, or stress hormone in your brain, making your feelings of panic worse, rather than better.

The same is said of raising your heart rate too high. Though it may feel good at the time, these behaviors can actually increase the frequency of anxiety attacks and damage your brain’s ability to manage stress levels in the long term.

Not everyone thinks of exercise as fun or entertaining, and if you struggle to get moving on your best days, it may be even more difficult to accomplish during an attack. Try coming up with creative ways to work out that sound fun to you.

When you invest in something like a jump rope or a hula-hoop, it becomes difficult to distinguish between toys and exercise equipment, and making this sort of activity a habit is healthy in many ways. Youtube is also filled with workout videos geared toward every level of experience and energy, with a wide range of fitness techniques.

Give a few a try and find what works best for you.

Nobody wants to be a bother and you are no exception. You might have noticed a loss of short term memory and maybe even had an episode of an unexplained crying spell or suddenly realized that your overall positive outlook on life is no longer as good as it used to be. You may find yourself too tired to get out of bed and no longer interested in visiting with friends and family members.

If you are fortunate, you will have a caregiver who will be dogging you to find help and get to a doctor. If you do not have such an individual in your life it is vital that you do not fall into the trap of self medicating with alcohol or questionable herbal supplements that you may find advertised on the Internet, the television, or the health aisle of the store.

A patient guide to dealing with elderly depression always – without exception – begins with a visit to a physician’s office. Do not hold back and instead list each and every symptom you have noticed. You will be pleasantly surprised to find that treatment for elderly depression is modern, minimally invasive, and very often will have almost immediate results that you will notice!

Granted, those older individuals who may have had close to 80 candles on their last birthday cake may respond to medications a bit slower than those will fewer candles on their cakes, but by and large rare is the elderly individual who will not respond well to the plethora of treatment options currently at the beck and call of physicians.

In some cases, medication may not even be necessary and instead a combination of talk therapy in a comfortable environment and a change in diet, such as an inclusion of high quality vitamin supplements or the inclusion of more fruits and vegetables, will do the trick!

Any patient guide to dealing with elderly depression would be incomplete if it failed to point out that many of the preconceived notions you may have had – or may still have – about seeking such treatment by and large are antiquated. After all, there are so many urban legends around that deal with depression and the Nurse Ratchet approaches that may have been the hallmark of yesteryear’s treatments. Please remember that suffering from depression is more common than you think and the likelihood of facing hospitalization for the condition is virtually non-existent.

Instead, the use of medication, talk therapy and a change in dietary habits is most often suggested. In addition to the foregoing, be prepared to not let go of enjoyable habits and activities but instead find that your doctor and therapist most likely will encourage you to pursue them or, if you do not have any activities in your life at this point in time, they may seek to help you find something that will bring joy to your life and that will provide a healthy activity to take on.

Thus, those recognizing their bout of elderly depression and choosing to deal with it usually end up with a much higher quality of life and overlook satisfaction with their life and situation than those who believe they can just carry on as though nothing was wrong and hope that this ostrich approach will somehow see them through.

MindSoothe is a specially formulated herbal remedy that has been successfully used in the treatment of Depression, Insomnia, OCD, SAD, Panic Disorder, and Anxiety.
