If the discomfort of Cystitis (Bladder Infection) increases, or there is blood or pus when you urinate, see a doctor immediately.

Drink lots of water and Chamomile tea at the first signs of Cystitis.

Use one Garlic capsule as a suppository placed up the rectum.

Make an aromatic wash with 3 drops each of Bergamot and Tea Tree in 17 fl oz (500 ml) of boiled, cooled water. Use this frequently as a local wash, making sure that you swab the opening of the urethra.

The urinary system, consisting of the Kidneys and bladder, regulates the body’s water content and salt balance, and eliminates waste. The kidney determines what will be eliminated and what will be recycled. It is also involved in regulating blood pressure.

Antiseptic diuretics to treat Bladder Infections include Cedarwood, Tea Tree, Bergamot and Fennel. Unlike some urinary herbs used to treat infection, such as Uva Ursi, these essential oils work well in both an acid and an alkaline environment. This means that they can be used in conjunction with Cranberries, which acidify the urine. Use these oils preventively in a regular bath or a sitz bath.

To make corn silk tea — put a handful of corn silk into tea pot and cover with 2 cups of boiling water. Let steep for 10 minutes. Strain before serving.

In the autumn when granny husked her corn for putting up for the winter, she’d take the time to save the corn silk before drying the husks for making corn dollys or use in other craft projects. She would spread the silk out on clean dish toweling to dry. Once the moisture was gone, the silk was stored in a brown paper bag for safekeeping to make some of her winter tonics.

Question: from Elizabeth

I’ve been getting Bladder Infections for about a month now. I drink cranberry juice and now take an extract I bought at the supermarket but I was wondering if you have something available.

I would much rather take your products if they are available then those found locally. The infection seems to clear up for awhile and then comes back again when I no longer drink the juice. Is there something else I should be doing? Thanks for your help! BTW: your newsletters are wonderful.

Even though the matter can be debated either way, to disprove or prove, Natural Remedies can help prevent as well as get rid of Urinary Tract Infection. Some physicians are of the opinion that antibiotics enhance the risk of UTI recurring as more and more bacteria get resistant to prevalent medication. It should be kept in mind that changes in lifestyles and supportive measures are part and parcel of any naturopathy.
