As usual you get out of bed in the morning… and then something very unusual happens — a knife-like pain stabs the bottom of your heel. This is not normal, you think, and it hurts. The cause may be plantar fasciitis (pronounced fashee-EYE-tiss) . While the condition sometimes comes on gradually, it can also start suddenly, for no apparent reason. But whether chronic or acute, plantar fasciitis can cause excruciating pain.

According to Arnold S. Ravick, DPM, spokesperson for the American Podiatric Medical Association and a podiatrist in private practice in Washington, DC, plantar fasciitis is complicated and involves a number of factors, all of which must be addressed, making it especially tricky to treat.

Plantar Fasciitis is inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thin layer of tough tissue supporting the arch of the foot. This may cause the heel to hurt, feel hot or swell. Microscopic tears, which occur repeatedly to the plantar fascia cause pain. Sometimes plantar fasciitis is called “heel spurs”, but this is not always accurate, since bony growths on the heel may or may not be a factor.

Plantar Fasciitis is often recognized when there is heel pain that is present on first putting weight on your feet. This pain usually gets better with movement but returns again when you sit or lie down for even a few minutes.

* Homeopathic Rhus Tox 30c taken twice a day can help relieve pain.

* Wear only shoes with good arch support.

* Try to avoid going barefoot during the healing process.

For all dancers, and most sports people, it is the feet that take the pounding, and caring for them is of paramount importance. Feet that are well cared for can withstand the pressure placed on the twenty-six bones in each foot as well as avoiding the very real pain of blisters, corns and bunions.

Blisters can become infected, especially those on the toes, and they need to be seen to immediately. Lavender may sting, but 1 drop on an open blister will stop it from becoming infected. Corns develop over a period of time and become painful. Tagetes is the oil to use on these - massage 1 drop on the affected toe when the corn hurts. Dancers who use tagetes as a preventative are less likely to develop corns.

Psoriatic Nails

About 50 percent of persons with active Psoriasis have psoriatic changes in fingernails and/or toenails. In some instances Psoriasis may occur only in the nails and nowhere else on the body.

Psoriatic changes in nails range from mild to severe, generally reflecting the extent of psoriatic involvement of the nail plate, nail matrix (tissue from which the nail grows), nail bed (tissue under the nail), and skin at the base of the nail.

Damage to the nail bed by the pustular Psoriasis can result in loss of the nail.

Nail changes in psoriasis fall into general categories that may occur singly or all together:
