Bulimia is an illness process that is an eating disorder which is common among young women. They are usually of normal or nearly normal weight that is characterized by episodic binge eating and is often followed by feelings of guilt, depression and self-condemnation.

Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric disorder that involves the inability to eat due to fear of excess weight gain. A person with this disorder is typically a young female between the ages of 15 and 23, although studies have included all age groups and males as well. Bulimia is characterized by people who experience episodes of binge eating or feeling a lack control over an eating episode and recurrent inappropriate behaviors to prevent weight gain twice a week for at least 3 months.
