Lavender is arguably one of the most famous and most loved of all the Essential Oils. It is definitely also among the most versatile; any listing of essential oils and their uses you find, Lavender is almost guaranteed to have the most entries. If you were to have only one essential oil in your home, Lavender should be it, hands-down.
So what’s the big deal? What all is it good for?
To start with, it just smells lovely. But of course, this isn’t really anything to do with `what it is good for’, but it certainly bears mentioning. On the more `effective’ side, it is one of the few essential oils that can be safely used undiluted on the skin (for most people – some are too sensitive even for this oil undiluted). It is also unsurpassed in the realm of essential oils for treating burns. I can speak from personal experience when I say a drop or two of lavender essential oil applied to a fresh burn will help reduce or even prevent blistering, and hugely reduce the healing time required (even though it will sting slightly at first).
In addition to that, it is also a natural antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antidepressant, sedative, and detoxifier. It helps to promote healing and reduce scarring by stimulating the immune system and encourages the cells themselves to regenerate more quickly. It can both calm and stimulate depending on your need. It can help soothe and refresh tired, sore muscle and feet.
Digging still further, you can find that it is also effective against abscesses, acne, allergies, anxiety, arthritis, asthma, athlete’s foot, bacteria, boils, bronchitis, bruises, colds, colic, cuts and wounds, cystitis, dandruff, depression, dermatitis, diarrhea, earache, eczema, fainting, headaches, hysteria, hypertension, infections, inflammation, influenza, insect bites, insomnia, hysteria, migraine, nausea, nervous tension, oily skin, PMS, psoriasis, rheumatism, sinusitis, sores, sprains, stress, stretch marks, sunburn, tension, ulcers, vertigo, and whooping cough.
Alright, clearly Lavender is useful. Why Aura Cacia specifically?
Aura Cacia is one of the oldest, largest, and most-respected brands on essential oils on the market. Although some may speak out against Aura Cacia, the only thing that I have really been able to glean from the objections of any substance is that they are a large company. And while I would count myself among the first to promote small business, I don’t feel that just because a company is large one shouldn’t purchase from them, if the quality is there. In this case, the quality is definitely there. And, because they are a large company, they can offer truly wonderful prices that smaller companies just can’t match.

Essential oils are doors to new experiences and Ylang Ylang is a more sensual oil that can be blended into massage oils and creams.
The tree is native to Indonesia and Malaysia and star-shaped pale yellow flowers with trailing and twisting petals produce a heady aromatic scent that also seems to have a slight lemony edge. The flowers are collected at night in May and June and the essential oil that is distilled is a highly evocative fragrance.
Soft, exciting, sensual and almost invigorating yet makes you sleepy. A highly complex fragrance that leaves you a bit heady and definitely in the mood to relax. This oil is perfect for sensual moments, massage, bubble baths or just to apply to your wrists before bed. I’ve also been known to sprinkle this around smooth stones placed around candles.
I would only recommend this essential oil for use when you don’t have to be very aware and can drift off into a dreamy sleep. Add this oil to your evening bath or put a few drops on the top of your head before you do your evening yoga
routine.

Remember that this is third distillation ylang ylang. First distillation is far better (and far more expensive). Second distillation is better.

I bought this because someone suggested that a drop of lavender essential oil in a diffuser in my bedroom would help me get restful sleep. I don’t know if it is lavender oil in general, or this particular formulation, but this made me quite sick.

Aura Cacia are largely good quality essential oils, good for external aromatherapy purposes only. We use a couple drops of essential oil per litre of homemade seltzer for flavoring. This isn’t good for that particular purpose [you know, the reason I bought it?] Now Foods essential oils are better for flavoring use. I’ll still use this oil for soaps, mists and in my vessel, but it won’t be passing my lips. They don’t mention this in the description. Aura Cacia peppermint oil can be consumed, but would make a nasty seltzer [perhaps].
