We all love going to the beach. It’s fun and it has its own health benefits.
Unfortunately, it also hides quite a few risks.
Yes, I am sure you know about the danger of sunburn, nail fungus, drowning or cutting your leg on a shell or broken glass.
These are the common threats.
Read on to find out some of the more surprising menaces that await us at the beach!
Common Health Threats at the Beach
I will be honest and admit that the first time I heard about sun allergy was the day I developed it. And I am not the only one. Most people can’t imagine being allergic to the sun, unfortunately it can happen to anyone.
It comes suddenly, at any age and it doesn’t care about your gender. It is caused by suddenly exposing yourself to loads of sun without using a good sunscreen. You need to be extremely careful if for whatever reason your body hasn’t been exposed to sun for a while (long winter for example).
You will recognize this type of allergy by the tiny red spots that appear on the skin. They look unpleasant and are often itchy and irritating.
In order to avoid the allergy you need to expose yourself to sun gradually and of course use a good multi-spectrum sunscreen.
The natural remedy Skin Dr can also help relieve these symptoms.
Also called pinkeye, conjunctivitis can occur at the beach for 2 reasons- underwater swimming without goggles (the water can irritate the eye and cause an inflammation) or by touching your eye with dirty hands and getting a grain of sand in it.
No matter the reason for conjunctivitis one thing is certain- the more you touch your eye, the worse it will get. The first thing you need to do is go to an ophthalmologist (eye doctor). He will normally prescribe some type of eye drops.
This is actually quite the common problem, however, it is a very underestimated one and that’s why it found its place in the list. In reality on average 1 out of every 3 people have their vacation ruined because of a summer virus caught on the beach.
Normally it (the virus) lasts for 2-3 days and is known to cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever and in rare cases cough. Not exactly the perfect vacation right?
In order to avoid it you need to take your vitamins regularly, have a healthy diet with lots of veggies and fruits, and avoid processed foods as much as possible. In other words- keep your immune system strong!
Even if you think there’s no chance that the nasty virus can overpower your immune system, I would still suggest bringing with you some anti-nausea/vomiting and anti-diarrhea medications, and of course a vitamin C supplement. Just in case…
Now that you are informed about 3 of the most underestimated health threats at the beach, all that’s left is to go there and look amazing.
And speaking of looking amazing I find it appropriate to recommend my post about the top 5 cellulite reducing exercises.
Now you are truly ready to rock the beach like a boss. See you there!
