Question: from Emily
I recently went to my dr. and had my bloodwork done. My cholesterol was 237. My triglycerides were 94, my HDL was68, and my LDL was 150. In your opinion do I need to take the 20mg of lovastatin a day that he has prescribed?
Answer: from Warren Matthews of Xtend-Life
I think that your Doctor has been brainwashed by the drug company reps. It is in my opinion irresponsible to propose you take a statin drug with this figures.
Firstly, high cholesterol is only a danger when it is combined with HIGH triglycerides… yours are not.
Next, your Doc has only looked at your TOTAL cholesterol and seems to have ignored that your HDL is 68.
This is incomprehensible!
He would have made this recommendation based on the cholesterol council of America.
Bear in mind that this council is controlled by the statin drug manufacturers would like to have everyone on a statin drug which is why they have a blanket recommendation based on total cholesterol only without consideration to the ratios or triglyceride levels.

The bladder, an organ in the pelvic region, stores your urine. When your bladder is full with urine you will feel a pressure in this area causing you to want to urinate. A womens vaginal front wall gives the bladder support. This wall becomes loose as one get older and in a weakened condition. Childbirth can also cause this to happen due to the pressure and/or strain.
If this damage is severe enough, the bladder prolapses (drops) into the vagina. The result of this action is urinary incontinence, difficulties with urination, and/or an uncomfortable feeling. There are varying degrees of this cystocele, which are based on grades 1-4, with 4 being the most severe.
The causes of a cystocele or prolapsed bladder are childbirth, the most common, due to stress on the muscles, straining, either during physical exertion or with stool passage, or menopause, due to estrogen deficiency.
The symptoms of a prolapsed bladder are a tissue sensation in the vaginal area or appearing out of the vagina, with or without bleeding, dysuria, incontinence when sneezing or laughing, a fullness in the bladder, frequency of bladder infections, pain upon intercourse, and pain in the lower back region.

A quick reminder on feeding and watering herbs-water only during drought conditions or when first transplanting. Don’t mulch unless it’s an herb that prefers moist conditions and the general rule is to not fertilize. Certainly if you do, use only organic fertilizer and go lightly.
COMFREY FOR YOU AND THE SOIL
Comfrey is good for your soil, whether it’s for herbs, flowers or vegetables. The deep roots will grow down up to 10 inches and loosen soil that is compacted. Consider this if you have a rough, dry area like a pasture that you are trying to convert to a garden area. There is a dwarf variety available too!
You may also harvest and use the comfrey to brew a tea that can be used to cleanse rashes and acne. Pour one cup of boiling water, and pour over 1/2 cup of leaves.
Brew for 15 minutes or so, then strain. Use a wash cloth to cleanse your face with the tea gently. It will store in the refrigerator for a few days. It shouldn’t be taken internally.

It is true that this world is full of suffering, disease and pain – but mingled in the midst of the darkness are points of light which shine very brightly. Kristen is one of these lights. In order to raise money for children with cancer, Kristen will be shaving her head on March 20, 2010. In this ‘Appearance is Everything’ culture where women spend *billions* on beauty products, this courageous lady will shear her locks to help raise money to save a child. Read her story and then make a donation – even $1 will help fund the research to save the lives of thousands of little ones who are battling this deadly disease. ~Dee
In Kristen’s own words…
I can’t imagine watching one of my four children dying. Even worse, I can’t imagine watching them suffer before they passed away.
I can’t fathom watching one of my sons or daughters lying in a bed…unable to move…spitting up blood and screaming in pain. I don’t think any parent can .
But it happens….every day. Maybe to your neighbor or the girl you stood behind in the checkout line this morning. Perhaps that guy you’re driving behind who can’t seem to stay at one speed is grieving the loss of his son. Cancer kills people…and it doesn’t care who or how old they are.

While bladder infections are more common in women than they are in men, men do suffer from bladder infections on occasion. A bladder infection is an inflammation of the bladder or urethra from over growth of bacteria. Once this infection occurs there is a higher risk for an individual to develop a kidney infection, epididymitis, prostatitis or orchitis.
When a man or young boy between the ages of three months and 50 years presents with a urinary tract infection anatomical abnormalities must be considered. This is because the incidence of urinary tract infections in this group of men is very low.
However, once a man reaches the age of 50 their incidence of urinary tract infections increases. This may be because the prostate begins to enlarge and changes the structural integrity of the urinary tract. The prostate is a gland which surrounds the urethra, the tube that runs from the bladder to the outside of the body.

Condylomata acuminata, more commonly known as genital warts, are regarded as a sexually transmitted disease. They appear in the genital area in the moist tissue region. Their appearance is cauliflower-like or show up as tiny bumps that are flesh colored. They may also grow together to form a group.
These growths can appear anywhere in the genital area to include the vagina, the vulva, the cervix, and/or the area that lies between the anus and the vagina. Genital warts in a man are on the shaft of the penis, the tip of the penis, the anal area, and/or the scrotum. A person can also have genital warts in the mouth or throat if he or she has had oral sex with another person that has genital warts.
Genital warts are of very great concern. The virus that genital warts stem from is the HPV or human papillomavirus. This virus has been found to be associated with various types of cancer in the genital area affecting both men and women. Treatment for genital warts is done by the use of medications and/or surgical procedures.
