Most people who are interested in using essential oils for their home or on their body will simply purchase the oils already in a container. They wont worry too much about how essential oils are made, as long as they smell great and work well. However, the way that essential oils are made is quite interested and if you ever feel like making your own, you will probably wonder what to do. Here is a quick look at the way that essential oils are extracted.
Steam Distillation: Steam distillation is the most popular and quickest way that essential oils are made. When you see essential oils made from steam distillation, you will see that it is highly effective and economical. When steam distillation is used, the plant material is placed in a cooker that resembles a pressure cookerthis is called the sill. The plant is then steamed as pressurized heat and water passes through the material. The heat will then cause the oil in the plant to rupture and evaporate. The vapor from the oil is passed through a pipe and cooled until it condensed back to the oil form. It sounds quite complicated, but with the right tools, it is not. You will find most of the oil you buy made this way.

Essential oils are great to use around your home, but before you run out to your local health food store to buy a bunch of these bottles, you need to know a little more about how to use them. When you purchase any essential oil, you will first notice that you are buying a very little bottle. You might wonder how you could possibly make good use of such a small amount of oil. That is where carrier oils come into play.
Carrier oils are very important to people who use any type of essential oils. Almost all essential oils are too concentrated and powerful to be used alone. If you do put straight and undiluted essential oil on your skin, you will probably notice an immediate reaction. It could be a very mild tingling of the skin, or it could burn. Carrier oils are used to extend the use of your essential oils and to make them suitable to use on your skin. Here is a closer look at some of the more popular types of carrier oils that you can purchase.

Leaky gut syndrome in conjunction with autism is still being researched; a number of studies and research are under way to better understand how the syndrome starts, why it can be prevalent in autistic children, and how to treat it. Simply, leaky guy syndrome is the inability of the intestinal wall to keep out large, unwanted molecules. This symptom of autism most often signifies that the intestinal wall has been altered to become permeable. Leaky gut syndrome in autistic children may occur because of increased sensitivity or allergies.
Leaky gut syndrome is problematic for one’s health because it allows molecules and substances (such as proteins) that are normally filtered out of the intestinal tract into the intestines. Because these molecules are not usually allowed inside the gut, the body misinterprets these non-harmful substances as a virus or infection and begins to produce antibodies to attack them. In turn, this creates a process where one’s body recognizes certain foods, as well as any of the body’s regular molecules that are similar to these foods, as harmful, causing an auto-immune disease where the body attacks itself. These are merely two possible outcomes with leaky gut syndrome. Others include the transportation of bacteria normally found within the intestinal tract to move into the bloodstream and cause an infection anywhere in the body as well as a weakening of the liver, which causes more toxins to circulate throughout the body, leading to a number of medical problems.

There are a lot of terms that get thrown around when you look into essential oils and aromatherapy practices. Some, like essential oils, make sense to you. They are exactly as the name suggests oils that are made from pure ingredients like bark, flowers, seeds and other plant material. Some other terms, such as absolutes and carriers may make no sense to you at all. If you are confused about the aromatic ingredients used with essential oils, then here is some help to clear up the confusion.
Essential oils: Most people have heard of essential oils. These are oils that are derived, through a variety of methods, with plant material. Common plants uses include seeds, seed pods, flowers, bark, leaves and many more. These are natural oils that come from a product. Think of the juice you get when you squeeze an orange. That is essentially, essential oil. These oils are used for a wide variety of uses in aromatherapy. They can help heal, they can compliment medical treatment, they can be used to fill the home or environment with a great scent, and they can invigorate or relax the mind.

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is a truly remarkable herb with many uses. In this issue, we will talk about growing yarrow and using it to make simple cosmetics.
Yarrow for Oily Skin and Hair
Yarrow is a wonderful choice when making cosmetics and cleansers for oily skin. Here are some of my favorite recipes.
Facial Steam
Place a tablespoon of yarrow in a bowl and fill the bowl half full with boiling water. Lean over the bowl, and cover your head with a towel so that no steam escapes. You should be 12-18 inches from the water. After steaming, splash your face with cool water and pat dry.
For added benefit, add one or more of the following herbs:
Stimulating Herbs
* Rosemary
* Sage
* Mint
Healing Herbs
* Comfrey
* Thyme
Soothing Herbs
* Lavender
* Chamomile
Yarrow and Chamomile Compress
You will need:
* 1 teaspoon of dried yarrow flowers
* 1 teaspoon of dried chamomile flowers
* 1 cup of boiling water
1) Pour the boiling water over the herbs and steep for 20 minutes. Strain out the herbs and discard. Cool the liquid to a comfortable temperature.

Many consider her a good colon cleansing essential to help and overall well-being. Others believe that a colon cleansing is only part of detoxifying our bodies from parasites and the buildup of toxins that we both inhale and eat from the processed foods. Some physicians believe that colon cleansing is only appropriate in preparation for a medical examination. Their theory is that the colon doesn’t require any special diets, animus or pills to eliminate waste material because it doesn’t naturally on its own.
The flaw in this very is that in a perfect world are colons would be more than adequate to eliminate waste material from our bodies. But, we all know that we don’t live in a perfect world. Just since World War II the number of toxic chemicals which have been manufactured and released into cleaning products, make up and other personal care products which are not covered by the FDA, numbers above 5000. Researchers find that tissues in our bodies absorb and store these chemicals at alarming rates.
Proponents of body detoxification and colon cleansing believe that this extra help is necessary to rid our bodies of chemicals and toxins which it was not originally designed to take care of.

Virtually everyone has heard of aromatherapy. It’s used to promote scented products such as candles, lotions and bath gels. Due to the loose usage of the term “aromatherapy,” few people realize that it is actually a legitimate form of alternative medicine.
Aromatherapy has been used for healing since the 1920s. French chemist Rene-Maurice Gattefosse was the founder of aromatherapy, but it happened quite by accident. He was working in his perfume laboratory when he accidentally set his arm on fire. In a panic, he immersed his arm in a nearby liquid, which happened to be lavender oil. He noticed that the pain subsided quickly, and the burn healed quickly as well. This prompted him to study further uses of aromatic essential oils.
Today, aromatherapy has grown to include a variety of plant-based materials in a variety of applications. Aromatherapy may be administered via diffusion, inhalation or topical application. Some may also be taken internally. In addition to essential oils, materials used include phytoncides, distillates and infusions.
Aromatherapists believe that inhaling essential oils or steam produced when those oils are diffused has an effect on the limbic system. The limbic system includes parts of the brain that deal with emotion, behavior and long-term memory, as well as the sense of smell. That’s why aromatherapy is so often used as a means of achieving emotional balance.
