Are you confused between the terms, “alternative medicine”, “complementary medicine”, and “integrative medicine”? Would you like to know what the difference is between these three terms? Below is a simplified definition and illustration of each of these terms for your benefit.
In order to understand alternative medicine, complementary medicine and integrative medicine you must first understand what constitutes alternative medicine and conventional medicine. Medical doctors or doctors of osteopathy and other allied health professionals such as physical therapists, registered nurses, and psychologists all practice conventional medicine. You may hear or read about other terms for conventional medicine including “Western medicine”, “mainstream medicine”, “orthodox medicine”, “regular medicine” or “allopathic medicine”.
Alternative medicine is what is used by those who are completely replacing conventional ways of dealing with symptoms and illness with the practices and procedures associated with healing through natural therapies and methods that have nothing to do with conventional medicine ways such as pharmaceutical drugs, and surgery. Conventional medicine tends to treat illnesses by the symptoms presented. In cubicle #5 is a broken arm, in cubicle #8 is a nosebleed, in #2 is preterm labor. The patient is defined by the presenting symptoms and the treatment is symptom-oriented. Drugs are prescribed to get rid of or mask the symptom without usually addressing the cause of the symptom. Alternative medicine focuses on the whole person, not the presenting symptom.

Like obesity, diabetes is now considered by many health experts and professionals as an “epidemic” because more and more people suffer from it. The age ranges of people who become prone to it become younger and younger. And the people who are at risk are those who do not only have diabetes history in their families but also those who have developed the disease over time.
Experts say that people who have a history of diabetes in their bloodlines are the primary set of people who are at risk for this disease. But, they are not the only ones who can suffer from this chronic illness. In fact, almost everyone—especially those who have high glucose content in their blood and unable to use it—is prone to having this disease.
Trends are changing
Before, when you are diagnosed with diabetes, it is synonymous to loss of limbs, total loss of vision or blindness, kidney failure, and worst, early death. But now, this is no longer the case. Because of the trends in modern technology and advances in the medical field through research, many people with diabetes are seeing hope that they will enjoy longer and healthier their lives just like the regular people.

Question: from Eric
Detoxifying the colon seems to have become one of the most popular therapies recommended by natural health practitioners. What is your opinion or research-based conclusion regarding the merits of cleansing the colon?
If you have concluded that cleansing the colon has merit, does your organization plan to provide a colon cleansing product? I think that if you do, yours would be better than any product currently on the market.
Comment: from Warren Matthews of Xtend-Life
A few years ago we spent some time researching this subject because I thought that it might be a good idea to produce such a product as there were so many questionable ones on the market. However, after further investigations and discussions with Prof. Dr. A Munem we decided that we would not be doing out customers any favours if we produced such a product. It would be putting them to unnecessary expense. There are no doubt occasions in which colon cleansing is warranted and indeed desirable, but not for the general population. And it should only be done by a qualified professional and followed with a double dose of Total Balance for a month.

Gum disease is a serious threat to your dental health. Gum disease is an inflammation of the gum tissues and if left untreated can affect the bone that surrounds and protects the teeth. Gum disease is caused by the formation of plaque. Plaque is a sticky, clean substance that can build up on the surface of teeth. Unchecked gum disease can lead to loose teeth even teeth that fall out.
The three stages of gum disease are gingivitis, periodontitis, and advanced periodontitis. Gingivitis is the earliest stage of gum disease. At the early stage the inflammation of the gums has just begun. The gum tissue is irritated, red and swollen. At the early stage if treatment is started gum disease can be reversed.
The bone and connective tissue that holds the teeth in place are not yet affected by gum disease in this first stage. Besides noticing red, swollen gums, you may also notice that there is blood on your toothbrush while brushing. Periodontitis is the next stage of gum disease and it is at this stage that the supporting bone and gum tissue that is connective in nature and hold the teeth in place are involved in the gum disease.
