I was very constipated, laxative didn’t work so I tried salt water….?

Question:

I drank 16 ounces with 2 tsp of kosher salt. I’ve been having extremely watery diarrhea for the past few hours. When can I expect this to stop?!

Answer:

What you did is basically a salt water flush - which is an oral enema - for lack of a better description. And, as just a point of advice, even though detoxing and cleanses can be very beneficial, it would be prudent to do them under the care of a natural health professional - they can carry risks. It’s a common misconception that just because something is ‘natural’ that it is safe.

Anyway, within 24 hours you SHOULD be over the effects, although you could still experience some nausea, so be careful what you eat - eat light - fruit juices and water are very good during flushes - especially water with a bit of lemon.

In the future, have some aloe capsules on hand. They are a much safer way to deal with constipation - and much much more gentle. Natural Moves is also a very good remedy for constipation.

Hope this helps :)

Caffeine and the Metabolism Connection to Heart Attacks

Research results show that there is a connection between how your body metabolizes caffeine and your heart attack risk. The research study shows that what is important is how quickly your body can metabolize the caffeine.

Individuals were studied between 1994 and 2004 and those with a gene variant that caused them to metabolize caffeine slowly were at a third greater risk of having a heart attack when they drank two or three cups of beverage containing caffeine a day. Those odds increased to 64% if they consumed four or more cups of caffeine containing beverages a day. These odds are compared to individuals who drank less than one cup of caffeine containing beverage.

Individuals who have a gene variant that causes them to metabolize caffeine quickly can actually reduce their odds of a heart attack by 22%.

Previous studies that have tried to link caffeine consumption with heart attack risk have been inconclusive.

Caffeine and Heart AttacksIt is a known fact that caffeine raises the heart rate, and possibly may also be linked to a rise in blood pressure, but it is not clear exactly if it is the caffeine alone or other chemicals that cause the heart attack risk percentages.

Exercises to Lose Weight - Choose the Ones That You Enjoy Doing

Our ancestors did not need to go to the gym and exercise to lose weight because they did not gain weight in the first place. They had a very active lifestyle that involved hunting for food, collecting fallen tree branches for firewood and being constantly on the move as nomads.

When villages were set up they were still involved in hunting and building shelters which provided them sufficient physical activity. Food was scarce and the human body adapted in a manner that it stored food as fat, which could be used for energy as and when the need arose.

Man moved from villages to towns to cities and metropolises and along with it found ways and means to reduce physical activity. However, the body retained its natural process of storing fat for emergencies.

And this today is probably the reason why we have a large number of overweight people across the world. Man is yet to discover a magic pill or formula to bypass the process of storing fat. Exercise is still the best, rather the only healthy way to lose fat.

Managing Workplace Stress

Workplace stress, although a recent phenomenon, has assumed alarming proportions. Stress at workplace can impact the overall performance of the business and can also lead to emotional, financial or security concerns in individual employees.

While evaluating stress at the workplace it should be noted that workplace stress is actually a stimulating factor ― “no one reaches peak performance without being stressed, whether an athlete, an office worker or a manager.” A certain amount of stress is required to induce responses that actually help us in moving forward in life through creativity solutions and increased productivity.

Let us look closely at what actually transpires:

* We face a situation or an event occurs that causes stress.
* We react with increased tension.
* We return to our normal relaxed state.

While stress is an essential characteristic of some jobs due to the inherent nature of the activity involved, workplace stress is otherwise a result of high demands of performance, inability to control these demands, poor organizational and communication skills, job insecurity and an unfriendly environment.

Emotional Wellness - The Endorphins and Serotonin Connection

To understand whether there is a connection between emotional wellness and endorphins and serotonin at all, it is important to understand what endorphins and serotonin are. It is also important to understand their role in the functions of the body.

Endorphin is a neurochemical, an organic substance that occurs in neural activity. Serotonin, on the other hand, is a neurotransmitter, a neurochemical that transmits nerve signals across a synapse (the junction between two neurons or a neuron and a muscle).

Endorphins are produced during strenuous exercise by the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus in the brain that controls the autonomic nervous system, the system responsible for involuntary actions including a sense of emotional wellness.

The term endorphin is derived from endogenous and morphine, implying that it is a morphine-like substance that is derived from within the body. Endorphins have analgesic properties and their action is similar to that of opiates. Its action in the body is also similar to a corticosteroid biochemical.

There are differing opinions about the level of exercise required for the release of endorphins in the body. Runner’s high, a much publicized phenomenon, is believed to occur when a person crosses a threshold, (when breathing becomes difficult).

Gaining Mindfulness Through Meditation

Find out how to begin the healing…

Meditation is a discipline where the mind’s intent is to gain focus and concentration power, while at the same time touching a higher state of consciousness. The idea behind meditation is to relax the body and focus thoughts on one thing for a sustained period of time.

The University of Wales has found that teaching mindfulness through meditation to people suffering from depression helps them cope with the negative thoughts present in their minds by emphasizing positive attitudes and behaviors.

Depending on your experience, you may be able to meditate for a few minutes a day or for hours at a time. Focusing your thoughts like this occupies the mind, taking it away from the problems that are causing you stress. It gives your body time to relax and recover from the stresses of the day, and clear away stress-related hormones that may have built up within the body.
