Do you have excess “tummy flab”?
Is your belly bigger then you like?
Excess tummy flab is not your fault’ That’s the startling conclusion reached by scientists who discovered the likely cause of stubborn belly fat. But instead of simply identifying the problem’ this time, they may have found the solution!
Take the Metabolic Syndrome Test:
* Does everyday life make you stressed out and anxious?
* Are you accumulating belly fat that you just can’t get rid of?
* Do you binge eat in response to daily stress?
* Do you have high triglycerides (the bad cholesterol)?
* Are you sensitive to refined sugar?
* Have you tried diet after diet without long term success?
According to government researchers, the link between stress, tension, and belly fat is clear. It’s called Metabolic Syndrome – a figure destroying, health threatening problem resulting in increased belly fat associated with high levels of cortisol – a nasty little stress hormone that causes pound after pound of excess body fat to accumulate around the waist and on your tummy.
It’s not a lack of willpower that’s causing unsightly belly fat, it’s the harmful combination of Metabolic Syndrome, everyday stress, and excess cortisol’ all conspiring to keep you overweight, tired, and thick around the middle.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Inside an Agriculture Department building known as C-3, four young chickens strut nervously in their cage. They are part of the government’s network of defense against deadly bird flu.
“These are nice, bright, healthy birds,” says veterinarian Michelle Crocheck, who is decked out in protective clothing that is part “ER” and part lobster fisherman.
If suspected cases of bird flu are found at other screening labs across the country, the future for Crocheck’s charges is grim.
The four fowl — and hundreds like them — are key players in a complex testing process at the National Veterinary Services Laboratories that will determine whether the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus has arrived in the United States.
“Lab diagnosis is definitely the centerpiece of the whole avian influenza response,” said Larry Granger, who oversees emergency management for the Agriculture Department.
The labs — normally off-limits to anyone but the scientists who work there — were opened Tuesday to journalists for a walkthrough of the nation’s only internationally recognized bird flu testing program.
Researchers test for bird flu, mad cow disease and many other animal diseases on the 640-acre campus near Iowa State University. The sprawling green lawns and low buildings are under tight security.

LONDON (Reuters) — Trying just one cigarette may not be so harmless for non-smokers after all.
Scientists have discovered that a single cigarette has a “sleeper effect” that can increase a person’s vulnerability for three years or more to becoming a regular smoker.
“We know that progression from experimenting with one cigarette to being a smoker can take several years,” said Jennifer Fidler of University College London.
“But for the first time we’ve shown that there may be a period of dormancy between trying cigarettes and becoming a regular smoker — a ’sleeper effect’ or vulnerability to nicotine addition,” she added.
Fidler and her team analysed the impact of smoking a single cigarette on more than 2,000 children aged between 11 and 16 over five years.
Of the 260 children who by age 11 had tried one cigarette, 18 percent were regular smokers by the time they reached 14. But only seven percent of 11-year-olds who had never smoked had taken up the habit three years later.
“The results also indicate that prior experimentation is a strong predictor of taking up smoking later,” said Fidler, who reported the findings in the journal Tobacco Control on Thursday.

ROME, Italy (AP) — European food safety experts have good news for dieters with a sweet tooth, announcing Friday that the popular sugar substitute aspartame does not raise the risk of cancer.
An Italian study last year wrongly concluded that the sweetener led to higher rates of lymphoma and leukemia in rats, said an independent panel of scientists advising the European Food Safety Authority.
The new review found that the number of tumors did not increase in relation to the dosage of aspartame fed to the animals. Many of the rats in the study had suffered from chronic respiratory disease and that was the most likely cause of the tumors, the panel said.
The findings support a huge U.S. federal study released last month, which found no link to cancer in a study of aspartame use among more than half a million Americans.
The European panel said its assessment should put the lid on years of debate over the sweetener found in thousands of products, including diet sodas, chewing gum, dairy products and even many medicines.
“There is no reason … to undertake any further extensive review of the safety of aspartame,” said Iona Pratt, a toxicologist who headed the panel.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The antidepressant Paxil may raise the risk of suicidal behavior in young adults, GlaxoSmithKline and the Food and Drug Administration warned Friday in a letter to doctors.
The warning letter was accompanied by changes to the labeling of both Paxil and Paxil CR, a controlled-release version of the drug, also called paroxetine.
A recent analysis of clinical trial data on nearly 15,000 patients treated with both Paxil and dummy pills revealed a higher frequency of suicidal behavior in young adults treated with the drug, according to the letter.
The FDA reported that there were 11 suicide attempts — none resulting in death — among the patients who received Paxil in the trials. Just one of the dummy pill patients attempted suicide.
Given that small number, the results “should be interpreted with caution,” the FDA said. Eight of the 11 attempts were made by patients between the ages of 18 and 30. All trial patients suffered from psychiatric disorders, including major depression.
GlaxoSmithKline released its findings after the FDA asked antidepressant manufacturers examine their clinical trial data for any links between the drugs and suicide in adults, company spokeswoman Mary Anne Rhyne said.

Do you suffer…
* Mild aches and pains that seem to get worse over time?
* Joint discomfort when you use or squeeze your hands?
* Easily inflammed or swollen joints?
* Increased discomfort in the cold, damp or humidity?
If you are like most people over 40 you may find that you have these symptoms in varying degrees…indeed you may be amongst the 70 million Americans, 4.5 million+ Australians and 7 million+ adults in the UK who suffer joint discomfort each year?
Symptoms like these are often ignored or simply ‘lived’ with because they just come and go, or are not severe enough to warrant embarking on an intensive protocol using our Arthrit-Eze formula or another natural or drug related protocol.
However by ignoring these symptoms the underlying cause of the condition will likely worsen with time, ‘creeping’ up on you until you are left with the pain and restriction of a much more serious arthritic condition which may ultimately lead to many other health problems…
…Early in 2005 our Research and Development team set out to find an effective low cost solution that may help those of you experiencing these milder discomforts…
